I am planning a party with around 100 friends and family (Melbourne). We would really like to have a spit roast pig (or other meat) but would like some recommendations for butchers or buying direct from a farmer. So far our favourite butcher has said even a small pig costs $240 and that will only feed 36 people (before including cost of rotiserrie rental etc).
Also advice on other budget meats or places to rent spit/rotisseries would be appreciated.

If you have not had any experience with spit roasts of the size you are talking about then I suggest you look into getting it fully catered.
You are never going to have time to enjoy the party with the amount of work that is involved.
