I have a feeling OP unconsciously typed "free" in Indo

The word comes from Latin via the Dutch I suppose…

      • Wow! Today I learnt!

        https://translate.google.com/?sl=auto&tl=en&text=gratis&op=t…

Auto translate actually recognise the word as Dutch first!

Gratis is also free in Swiss German (via Latin) but not in high (normal) German. I figure it is because nothing is free in Switzerland, it was such a foreign concept that they had to find the word for it - so consulted a Latin dictionary.

I think OzBargainers would embrace the word Gratis very much.

Gratis is an English word as well. Yes, it comes from Latin.

The Indonesian language adopted the word "gratis" from Dutch.
