Best Way to Renew Telstra / JB Hi-Fi SIM Only Plan to Telstra SIM Only Again?

With many of our JB Hi-Fi Telstra deals signed a year ago with the $500 gift card and $10 off per month coming up to expire, has anyone been successful in the last few months in:

  1. Porting out then porting straight back in without waiting 28 days to get the $400 gift card back on offer?
    and
  2. Getting the $10 off per month as a "new customer" again?

Or could I still sign up as a "new customer" then switching the numbers via the online chat?

Funnily according to the JB website it doesn't state anything about 28 days for the gift card; only port-in and customers who connect a NEW service to Telstra so if I was to go according to that, I could port to a $2 Voda SIM then port-back to JB/Telstra on the same day?

Have to stick with Telstra unfortunately since living in an Optus and Voda reception dead spot.

Tried this last year, and no go. The JB rep just pulled up the number and it listed every period I was on Telstra, and saw I wasn't out for a month (aka a billing cycle). Anecdotally, some people say they've gotten away with it. Regardless, it's not their policy, so isn't completely reliable.

Did get this to work, but via Telstra, and not JB.

To guarantee eligibility, just port over for a month with a cheap $2 SIM then re-apply. Unfortunately, it's difficult to predict when JB has another $500 GC promotion.

They usually run something for Black Friday. I signed up to a plan with $500 GC last BF and will do so again this year. 26/11 this year, so I'll probably port out around mid October in prep for porting back on BF.

If one ports out to ALDI for a billing cycle and back, does this qualify? Considering that ALDI use Telstra's 4G network, does it cause issues?

    • Would like to know… I think it was Boost that was the issue?

If I do wait for Black Friday I would need to port out twice.

AppArently boost won’t work but aldi should be ok.

Two years ago I managed to jump to Vodafone for 3 hours and jump back on telstra.

Also the other option is to sign up for a new plan and then ask the rep to swap the numbers

With signing up to the new plan and then asking Telstra to swap the numbers, I can confirm that Telstra have said they can do this once the plan is activated.

My question is though will JB know once they’ve issued the gift cards that I’ve ported in from Boost/Belong, or will it go unnoticed. Or will I need to swap my boost to Vodafone or similar then ask Telstra to apply the number to the new plan?
