Comments

  • sigh…

  • They rolled it out, then rolled it back.

    • they rolled it back? can you explain this comment pleasals?

      • Rolled out -> here's your Ice Cream Sandwich.
Rolled back -> NO ICE CREAM FOR YOU.

Roll back means reverting to the previous version. Maybe they found some serious problems with the current implementation when it was made available and removed the option to upgrade to it until it's fixed.

  • Nothing for Australia but Samsung announced on Facebook that the upgrade has started for some areas.

"Samsung offers Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade for GALAXY S II

We're thrilled to announce that Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich will be available to GALAXY S II users in the European countries including Poland, Hungary and Sweden, as well as Korea today, and gradually roll out to other markets.

ICS for GALAXY Note, GALAXY S II LTE, GALAXY R, GALAXY Tab 7.0 Plus, 7.7, 8.9, 8.9 LTE and 10.1 will follow soon.

In addition, we'll also offer Android 2.3 Gingerbread firmware upgrades for GALAXY S, GALAXY Tab 7", GALAXY S Plus, GALAXY S SCL (Super Clear LCD) and GALAXY W from end March. The firmware upgrades for GALAXY S, for example, include Face Unlock, Snapshot, Photo Editor, and others.

The availability and scheduling of the software update and specific models upgradeable to Android 4.0 will vary by market and wireless carriers' requirements.

    • Updated on March 14."

  • The only problems I encountered after updating was my contacts wiped and it no longer connects to Kies via cable.
I was able to restore contacts from a earlier backup I had done to memory card.

  • Official update came at midday.

Looking at the forum and blog topics, it looks like there are more issues than there are benefits to updating. Like Nvox's issues, there are people complaining about:

    Widgets not resizing correctly
    USB mass storage not working
    Bluetooth file sending issues
Receiving Call to Mp3 playback handling issues
ERR:0027A error message when switching from Swype to Samsung keyboard
Doesn't seem to be as smooth as gingerbread

I think this Sandwich needs more time in the freezer before they rolled it out…

Upgrade at your own risk, and as always do a backup of your most important stuff.

  • Yep, 2 issues after upgrading…
Lock screen sometimes freezing and needing to do a battery pull.
Unable to update via USB cable on Kies. Some error about device not supported upgrading via Kies…

  • Now for a completely useless feature.
They seem to have kept the hidden android robot except he now wears a Ice cream sandwich and sort of flys.
If you haven't found it - click in the menu "about phone" then fairly fast click about 5 times on "Android Version" then hold finger on the android robot he gets larger then he and other robots fly past.
