Should I Buy a PlayStation VR for PS4

Hi guys, I'm wanting a PS VR with all the titles I've collected over the last couple of years I think it's time to buy a unit.

I haven't seen any at EB etc for a while now, or do you think I should wait for black friday? Usually when I see them on sale.

  • They turn up for $300 every now and again for the Megapack with 5 included games but honest opinion is it's a gimmick you'll get bored with very quickly and gather dust.

Also note there's a PSVR2 on the horizon next year, not clear when but will be a huge leap forward and would suggest waiting for that.

  • PSVR + Resident Evil 7 was worth the price of admission for me. Fantastic experience. I'm using it on PS5 now with no dramas either.

Edit: Wipeout is awesome on it too.

  • I just want to have it for the kids, they've been asking for a VR headset for a while.

  • I guess if you already have the games and the ps4 , then sure.
But imo your money better spent on an oculus quest 2.

    • Yeah I won't be playing it. I've been trying to play ff7 remake the past year and haven't gotten around to do that. I want the kids to play with the PS4 a tad more then android Minecraft and Minecraft on the switch

  • +1

If you have a PS5 or will be getting one, I would recommended waiting for the one designed for PS5, unless you can find the current PSVR for a ridiculously low price.

  • I wouldn't pay full price, but if the mega bundle comes up for $260 or so again I'd say it's definitely worth it. Do need to think about the cost of move controllers if you want to play something like Beat Saber or Iron Man too though

    • I've got the moves from PS3, I hear that will work right? Only thing I'd like to get for the kids is the vr aim controller

      • Yep, those work fine! Aim controller is great for the few games that use it but most of those are at least a bit horror-ish (Doom, Farpoint, Arizona Sunshine) so without knowing how old the kids are it could be hard to justify.

        • Bahaha under 12. I do have doom and farpoint

          • @madturbo123: Farpoint with the Aim controller is one of the best experiences I've had in VR so far, but probably still not worth the $110 or whatever it costs by itself.

  • I think I might go with the majority opinion and wait for the ps5 vr. I'll definitely upgrade to the ps5, but it won't be anytime soon. I only migrated to the PS4 pro in 2019 so until the ps5 is floating around the 300-400 I'll still be on the PS4 and switch.

    • That won't happen for a very long time as you're literally talking about paying half the price. Aside from it being very hard to find one at retail price right now, there's even talk of Sony increasing the price of the console, so at that point it'd be higher than the current $749 price.

I am looking to trade in my PSVR at some point, so if you're around Brisbane, I could sell mine… But like others have said, right now the best option would be to wait for the next PSVR for PS5.

      • +1

Yeah, considering the base PS4 is still up for sale for $440 (not that I expect they are selling many) I think you'll be waiting a while, especially with the supply shortages expected to run well into next year..

    • You're looking at at least 8 months until PS5s are even reliably available from retail stores. Probably 3+ years for the digital to even dip below 500. The PS4 Pro is pretty decent though, slap an SSD in there if you haven't already and it's about on-par with the series s experience.

  • Is it any good for watching 3D bluray movies?
