Smart Water Heater / Controllers?

Hi, Just wondering if anyone has researched much or used a smart water heater controller to monitor power, water consumption and turn off in holiday mode?

These ones look pretty interesting but seem to be US only?

  • You'd need an electrician to legally install that here in Australia. Also I don't think it would work on a gas water heater as most here are not electronically controlled.

    • +1

If it's gas then there'll be no saving either way, gas storage never use any electricity, gas instantaneous only need electricity for ignition and cost pretty much nothing. If he has electricity storage there might be a point saving if that is a holiday house and only visit occasionally, and he can probably get some wifi controlled high current relay installed into the circuit.
In short there'll be a very limited market for such product and that's why it's hard to find, even if it does there's very limited economic in it.

    • This was in the context of an electric storage heater. The connector measures the flow of the incoming cold, the outgoing temp and the power consumption.
