Worth It? New Switch OLED Trade in @ EB GAMES

Hi all,

I saw this trade-in deal on EB Games website and just wondering if it's worth it to trade my 2yo switch + 2 physical game copies I never played

the OLED RRP $539, pay $299 if traded in, so save $240

Do you think I can sell my old switch console (very good condition) + 2 games for > $240?

edit: also just wondering if I'll lose my zelda, pokemon saves? i don't have the online subscription.

Thank you.
Paul

The big question is, is the upgrade worth an additional $300? I mean, would you pay original switch price (~$450) + two games (~$100) + an additional $299?

Personally, I'd keep the original switch and wait for the next gen. The OLED version is not a significant improvement on the original.

    • The new one also supports LAN, make online playing a bit more stable

get a usb to LAN adapter

Unless you use the switch a lot dockless, OLED isn't going to be worth it, the screen and kickstand are only useful in handheld mode. The LAN port is a plus, but depends how often you play online.

Used switches in good condition seem to sell for $300+ on ebay (even better with the box), and that is not taking into account the prices you could get for the games.

Unless you really love handheld switch, I think it isn't worth it, and even if it was worth to upgrade to OLED, I don't think the EB offer is a good deal.

  • I have a release day switch and was hoping the new version would be something worthwhile upgrading for. I personally play only in handheld mode and was hoping to upgrade for the better battery at least but there is just not enough changing to make it worthwhile for me. The decision is made easier due to no more travel for work so having a crapful battery doesn't impact me at home too much.

    • Unpatched switches sell well! Should consider selling and upgrading

      • my switch has serial number starting xkw7, google says it's patched

Yup, I figure it will hold its price pretty well, I was tempted a few times to upgrade even to the newer model for a bigger battery but never got around to it.

If the newer version had beefed up specs and better battery may have jumped on it, but not enough for me to justify it.

Will keep holding on and wait to sell when we eventually get a switch pro or similar, which I believe is still on the cards eventually.

If it was worth it you wouldn't have to ask.

"Worth" is always up to the individual.

Is it a good deal? Well, depends on what games you're planning on handing-over and what the alternative (of selling rather than trading) could net you.

Of course, the time and safety aspects of a private sale may make trade-in "worth it" to you regardless of selling separately.

Note - EB will ask you to open those new games anyway - even if they are Y-fold sealed.

    save $240

Well, not really a saving - just reduced out of pocket exposure.

Do you think I can sell my old switch console (very good condition) + 2 games for > $240?

Absolutely. Possibly much more depending on the game titles on offer.

wondering if I'll lose my zelda, pokemon saves? i don't have the online subscription.

    Yes.

  • Not worth it. Wait for the 4K model that Nintendo are adamant doesn't exist but has been hyped for so long.

  • Nintendo is trying very hard to contain the existence of the 4K Switch Pro which everyone knows for sure it is out there in development.

  • There is still buzz that a Switch "pro" exists. Even people like MVG (modern vintage gamer) that works in the industry are suggesting that they may have the hardware. It's anyone guesses though, so it doesn't hurt to wait a year to see if this mystical "4k switch" comes to reality, if not, then at least there will be some deals on the OLED model.

  • Wait for the Switch 2 to upgrade, coming around 2023-2024

  • SELL it on ebay when the $1 final fee promo comes around again. I sold my old switch and case for the price of the new switch thats how much they are selling for now. it was like a free upgrade. EB games give you bugger all for your trade in not worth it.

Also I just got my OLED Switch today :D happy as.
