Router Replacement | Replacing Sophos UTM SG135w

Hi Team,

I currently have a Sophos UTM SG135w on a home license. I need something else and newer for two reasons:

  • I've hit the 50 IPs allow for a home license
  • It doesn't support IKEv2 Site to Site connectivity

It doesn't need to have Wireless, but would be great if it did. Otherwise, I just need to buy another wireless access point, which isn't a huge issue.

Any recommendations? Budget is under about $800.

    Build your own with pfSense or Untangle? Or buy one of the Netgate boxes with pfSense pre-installed.

    Plenty of packages/plugins for both platforms that will get you a lot of the way to a UTM if you’re needing more than just firewall and VPN services.

      I only used the UTM because I got it from work as we no longer used it. It has some nice features which are nice.

      I have been looking at the Ubiquiti stuff and like their UI.

    Get a base Fortigate "F" series. 40F or 60F - you don't need to keep the subscription going to IPSEC running.

    I understand that the Unifi Dream Machine can do this, but I have not tested it as yet with a VPN.

    FortiGates are stable and will keep you going year after year.

      Thanks. I have had this as a recommendation, it looks pretty good and I like their UI.

    You can get a Sophos XG license free for home use, need to provide your own hardware

    I run this on a mini PC with Hyper-V, running it as a VM
