Laurent is everywhere…and you could also try le petit gateau in the city. Their cakes are really pretty though, not quite "no special occasion".

    Or Michel's patisserie?

  • Aviv cakes in Elsternwick, check out the reviews on urbanspoon. I recommend the chocolate babka or flour less chocolate. Not a bargain but great cakes.

They got a awesome signature cake called "The Pleasure Dome". Others that I have tried are the "Hazelnut Praline Cake" and the Mango Mousse which were also pretty good.

$42 for a large cake and you might need 2 of them to serve 9-10 people a decent slice. They are soft, moist and rich.

Our office have been getting the cakes from them every month for a monthly birthday celebration for staff. There's about 20 of us in the office and we have to ration them to little square pieces from 1 cake.

you can usually get a discount from the cheese cake shop website, for joining up to a mailing list. Not sure if its still on.

    • cheesecake shop is pretty rubbish imo, their chessecakes are really bad quality

      • not great, but simple.

If you are near the Chadstone area, you can check out Oakleigh Quality Cakes (www.oakleighqualitycakes.com.au)

    Oakleigh Quality Cakes
    25-27 Portman Street,
    Oakleigh VIC 3166

We used them for our wedding cake, and all the feedback I've received has been positive.

They do make normal cakes for non-special occasions, so you can go in and check them out.
