Ooh, a really good game, I've replayed it multiple times and I'm replaying it again now. I reccomend.

Still sitting in my Pile of Shame in Steam library.

      • +4

Give it a go, I enjoyed it quite a bit.

        • +2

I will. Currently trying to get through my Pile of Shame one game at a time.

    • +1

I've played it a couple of times over and I want a sequel so bad

  • +2

I know this has probably been asked a billion times but to make another plebe more knowledgeable: what does DRM-free stand for relating to games from third-party sellers like this?

    • +14

DRM stands for Digital Rights Management. It is a technology that is used by providers of digital content like games, music, etc that restricts the platforms on which such content can be accessed. I.E. Games purchased on Steam can only be played on Steam. However a DRM free game can be installed completely offline with zero server checks to verify that you purchased the game.

    • +5

Essentially it's just that they ensure no additional intrusive software is included that restricts the use of the software you purchased - i.e. don't need to have X open and be online to play the game. Just like how games used to be in the 90s. You install the files and open the .exe file.

      • Just like the days where I would play Halo Combat Evolved from a USB Stick! … Or… not really… Kinda…

I remember Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo being 50 floppy disks.

  • +10

highly recommended, still sad they canned the sequel.

    • +2

      Nothing beats the pork buns!

  • +3

One of my all time favourite games. Highly recommended!

This game taught me how to say smelly vagina in Cantonese. Now I use it everywhere lol

    • +1

Hmm to who I wonder. An ex-colleague got obsessed with swearing in Cantonese after this game. I guess everyone has their tastes

    • Can't remember how to say in Cantonese, but do know in Hokkian/Fujian.

  • +4

A man who eats too many pork buns can never fit in a manhole.

  • +3

Great now I want pork buns.

  • loved it

I think referring to this as 'GTA-like' is going to set expectations which will not be met.

It's an awesome game but it is not a substitute for GTA.

I should play through it, again. I very much enjoyed it the first time.

    • +1

Yeah, I agree. It does better than GTA games in some parts and does worse in others. You can tell what parts of the game they put more/less effort and time into; the driving physics and mechanics aren't the best, but the combat is obviously a highlight and a well designed aspect of the game. Sleeping Dogs obviously had a lower budget than say GTA 5 for example, but that doesn't stop it from being a great game.

Crazy to think this only came out 1 year before GTAV

      • +1

Me thinks its a much better game than GTA 5, environment, settings, HK Triads before they really died out with China taken over HK with Security law

  • +9

As a Hong Konger, they really captured the look and feel. The game is one of my all time favs. At this price, a no brainer. Half tempted to buy a DRM-free version.

    • This came before national security law. Pretty sure there will not be any sequels

    • Aye, it's a slice of home isn't it.

  • +7

A car? Duc la! I’ll be there right away!

  • I loved playing this game so much, everynight was a joy. Devo that didn't get to make a sequel

  • +1

you can't go wrong with this game, its a great game overall. The map is really beautifully done, it's not very big but it does capture the feel of Hong Kong. (I was born and grew up in HK so I know). The story is good apart from the fact that they all speak Chinese with an English accent (except for few like salty crab), sounded more like triad in the Chinatown than in actual Hong Kong.

  • Just ordered, thanks OP

  • Such a good game. Hoping one day it’ll get ported to Switch…

  • +2

Great Game ! The in-car radio stations are great too … I drive around HK just to listen to some of the Tunes…. and to beat up random bad dudes…..

  • Got this for $4.04 from Fanatical in a previous deal.. suggest waiting for that to come back.

  • Using a VPN logged in from Ukraine makes the game $2.17 USD, with current XE rates making it $2.97 AUD.
    That's a further 27.4% saving.

    Hope this helps someone.

Neon lights, rainy streets and chill beats. Just an awesome game. #Porkbun

  • One of Emma Stone's and Lucy Liu's finest performances.

  • +1

This game is amazing. I've played through it dozens of times, the hand to hand combat is fantastic alone. It's a crime it never got the sequel they planned.

  • +1

    $6 on PS4 too

Play the game, order or cook some Chinese food and it's like a mini getaway. Find frozen pork buns in your local supermarket, steam em up, make some fried rice, pretend you're not in lockdown.
