Suitability of MX Keys for Mac with a Windows Laptop

I am expecting to get a MX Keys for mac pretty soon for cheap (say 50% off), but I only own windows laptops. Looking it up online I don't see a major difference between them expect a few key markings and placements.

I am just wondering if anyone had used MX keys for mac on windows and how the experience has been.

    • "Yup it will. I’m using the PC version for my work windows PC and my personal MBP. The only difference is how the keys are labeled and a few other differences."

    • "Keyboard layouts are correctly recognized by each OS. So I did not have to do any manual key bindings to correct it. Command and control are in their correct respective places in each OS. The only weird thing is the default function key being on which you can disable."

Q: Hello there! You mean that is 99% the same functionality except that the Fn for windows will not be working?

A: I haven’t noticed any keys that don’t work on either side. So 99% is correct. Function works fine.

    • yea, I did check it out in reddit but I honestly got mixed answers.

While the link you provided says all is well there were a couple which complained that they couldn't switch the corresponding keys for alt & windows to be in the right place. Also there were some comments about the windows layout option not sticking. Besides most post were a year or 6 months old, just making sure if things had changed since, probably with a new f/w or so.

If u install Microsoft Powertoys there is a keyboard manager utility that lets you remap keys and shortcuts, if you want to over-ride certain keys on your keyboard.

        • good to know.. thanks for the tip.

If you can get the MX Keys standard version to use for both Windows and Mac, this is the best solution. I'm typing on one right now. Since the standard version support MAC with MAC labels on the keyboard itself. Plus from what I know the standard version will come with the unify USB dongle, while Mac version doesn't come with it.

    • That would be my preference as well, but it is the mac version that I am getting for a discount. I am just trying to gauge if the discount is worth the hassle

  • I'm in the same position as op. Any new findings? Over the last couple of months?
