Anytime Fitness Started Charging before Gyms Open

Dear ozbargainers,

Anytime fitness has already started charging gym fees on Friday when the gym in Sydney actually start opening on next Monday.

Is this usual practice?

Cheers,

Could be that this is the particular direct debit cycle for the period covering the Monday hence why it started?

Or it could be that it was prematurely activated… You'll have to ask them tomorrow?

    • yes its direct debit. WIll have to ask them thanks

  • Possibly an admin error, call them up.

  • Likely covers for the upcoming Mon-Sun

  • What does your membership agreement say?

They probably pressed the direct debit button on Friday afternoon/night expecting it to go through on the Monday.

Did you get the email, do you know when you were debited?, my email says:

Your first Direct Debit will occur this Friday the 8th of Oct and will be pro-rated so that you will not be debited for the days between 8th 11th of October.

  • Most likely just covering off whatever weekly/fortnightly cycle they use for billing.

In some regards, consider yourself lucky they suspended fees at all. Some chains (eg. Jetts was still charging $7 per fortnight for nothing) never stopped.

  • Billed in advance

  • I’ve had this in Victoria. Their direct debit apparently goes through on Thursday afternoons so if the lockdown kicks in on friday unless they pause it before then everyone will get charged.

Apparently their system has struggled with all the lockdowns here. They were pretty apologetic last time we got out of lockdown and said that they had a backlog too work through and refund but it would take a couple of weeks. I think it is a combo of them being a bit disorganised and accounting system limitations with continual lockdowns.

Just contact your local via email and I’m sure they’ll sort it or as others have said, have they pro-rated?
