Myer Giftorium Christmas Tree Sale

Hi OzB,

My wife and I are shopping for a new Christmas tree for our home this year and have narrowed our options down to DJ/Myer, but I have a tree in particular that i'm eyeing that Myer stocks.

I'm deciding whether to use my latitude credit card so I can price protect the purchase or purchase it at a reduced price with some gift cards.

Depending on how likely the trees are to go on sale during and after boxing day, I can simply claim the difference on my latitude instead of lowering the outright purchase price with a gift card.

Anyone who works at Myer know if the Xmas trees always go on sale online? As I'll be using the website to claim the price difference..

Thanks!

Price protect but better hope they don’t randomly remove the listing from website, my suggestion is to claim the first price drop sooner rather than later then claim the other drops as it goes down.

Your first issue will be whether the tree you have is still in stock at the time. If it sells out, it doesn't matter whether it's was going to go on sale or not.

  • I bought our tree last year from Myer for 20% off, in November. Still a premium price but a very nice tree.
There was limited stock so be quick once the sale starts.

They've been ordering less and less each year, so they sell really quickly now. Generally get in quick to actually get one but definitely price protect. Depending on how they sell, 20-30% off isn't unusual, but 40% or 50% MAY happen if they're still around mid-November to early-December.

    Source: Worked there until recently.

  • Latitude price claim. I only use gift cards for consumables now (as I can't claim price protection for those items).

  • Through a strange turn of events we instead got a tree from David Jones. Ended up using a $50 Westfield gift card we dug up as there didn't seem to be much stock left.

    Happy early Christmas all!

  • Been a while since I worked at Myer so times might have changed but the trees are generally an item they successfully clear before boxing day sales. If you're lucky, there's a few left in the weeks leading up to Xmas you can score for a good discount (40%, maybe 50% in the last few days) but they are usually instore only, possibly ex-display and may not be the style/size you want.

Definitely price protect if you can, it used to be that in November they would do a sale on Xmas stuff for 25% off so if there's one you have your eye on, it could work in your favour to grab it early and claim the price drop then.
