Not sure if it’s a scam that I’m not savvy about.
Basically I’ve booked someone to do a job for me. The tasker has requested payment but messaged me saying that they did it because they will be too busy on the day of the task.
They’ve also specifically said to not release payment until after the task is done.
Sounds legitimate but am I missing something here?
Look for someone else.
Run away. Block. Ignore. Find someone else.

No personal confirmation of job done, no payment. Simple as that.
Don't go ahead unless you're really comfortable with it…
But on the flip side, it might be that they've previously done jobs but had the 'requester' not complete the transfer for some reason or another. Definitely not saying you should do it, but it might not actually be a scam - more general dishonesty or protecting themselves?
If I worked on airtasker and I felt that a 'requester' had unjustly withheld all/part payment for a job (eg, "damage done during delivery" that was there when I picked up the item), then I'd probably look for ways to mitigate that risk.
Too busy to open the app and press a button? Yeah right. Untill the task is done don't accept the request.
