Once you've used Corelle it's hard to revert to normal china crockery

    why?

  • I think the noodle bowls are a good size.

    • Seconded

It's super thin and lightweight, chip and break resistant, super slippery surface very easy to clean always looks new, lots of different bowls and plates for all occasions and lasts a lifetime

i am using IKEA's tempered glass OFTAST range of bowl and plate, ~$0.7 also very happy with them
not sure if this will be significant better than OFTAST.

I've used both, for our use case the Corelle have not chipped or craked since we bought them 2 years ago. We bought the IKEA Otfast this year and have had chips already in 3/12 plates we used. Admittedly i'm not really careful with any of our dishes as I'm not fond of cleaning them. With my experience, the Corelle is worth the price difference so far.

that seems Corelle is stronger. will see if still available. whenever we buy we need 2-3 sets…
the Oftast is not too bad, only one bowl suffered from unknown random chip. and 3-4 suffered from total destruction from falling down the table by kid.
1-2 times falling from table onto the floor without any chipping…

  • Has bigW or anyone ever done 50%off on Corelle?

  • Are these good for everyday use? Durable?

I recently turned 60 and I’m still using Corelle plates that I got for my 18th birthday.

Some people have had issues with their plates breaking but I haven’t.

They are light, they wash well in the dishwasher, the glaze doesn’t craze.

I would get the dinner plates, the breakfast bowls and the noodle bowls. The bread and butter plates are good for pastries, etc.

      • Thanks so much! I'll get the Classic 16 set plates

The only caveat I would have on that is we don’t use our corelle mugs and you don’t get the noodle bowls with the set. I think the mugs are stonewear. I would, also, buy four of the noodle bowls.

          • @try2bhelpful: Thanks. Would it be worth waiting for Black Friday sale for buy a set?

@N21212: I’m not sure where you live but some of the DFOs in Victoria have Corelle stores. These also have InstantPot accessories, Pyrex, Oxo, etc so they are worth having a look at. They, usually, have a good range and discounts. We are, probably, a couple of weeks away from these opening again.

I haven’t looked at these sets during Black Friday sales but Woolworths has this discount reasonably regularly.

Frankly, if I was you, I would get a couple of loose plates and noodle bowls and see if they float your boat. Classic white is always in style.

Just to give you an idea I took a picture of a plate from my original set. This has been through the dishwasher umpteen times. The Corelles are my day to day dishes.

              • @try2bhelpful: Thanks. Yes I'm from Victoria. I'll buy 1 set for now and few noodle bowls, and I'll check DFO stores when we re-open. Surely there will be more discounts to boost the economy.
                Looks brand new! haha

Absolutely, they are hard wearing, durable and look like new after many years of daily use

the earthenware coffee mugs seem to just be in the set to increase the item count

They're not sexy but they last. I have had Corelle dinnerware for 20 years and I have only had to replaced ones that I have dropped. None have cracked or chipped through regular use and they still look good. Over time I have added pasta bowls, rice bowls, and noodle bowls.

    The mugs are pointless though.
