  • Do you really need office right now? If you want to save dosh or at least until you find how to get a cheap version of Office 2011 have a look at this.

NeoOffice is the open office port for OSX, and can do much of what someone will want at home.

Or you can choose the open office version for the Mac

    Openoffice link

    Or LibreOffice

Just check out which gives you the best features/setup for what you want.

  • Find someone you know who's got access to Microsoft's Home Use Program.

Most corporate should have them allowing their employees to buy it for $15. Yes $15.

    • This is true as we got it through my wifes work for $15

    • +1

Strange, mine was $10 through my house mate's Home Use Program last year.

  • I can get it for 39 dollars or so through school :-)

    • $39 or so through school? How?

  • I'd seriously consider going Pages for Macintosh.
    Reads & writes Word docs.

Its AU$20.99 in App store, Lion only.

Only issue is once you add Numbers & Keynote price gets up to $60+
Should be able to get free updates via App store

    • i've never tried Pages. i was wanting office because i've used it for so long.

i just need Word. anyone know where i could get it cheaply?

  • thepensioner, do you have any friends who are a students? they could help ;)

  • ok thanks guys.

what companies have the 'home user program'?

office for mac is so costly. $220 is the student version..

  • anyone know if word is available as a stand alone or is office necessary?

    • It can be used stand alone. But Stand alone editions don't seem to exist for the Mac. Also, the Stand Alone pricing is also still quite high ($189 for ONE program as opposed to $209 for the Office Home and Student package)

You can see how poor value it is to just buy one stand alone program.

You cannot buy the Stand Alone Word 2011 for Mac; it is available only for Windows.

  • ok, thanks. it is expensive, $209 for Office..
