I see members administering vaccines to themselves in the locker rooms every night.

Just signed up here in SA not much different to other gyms that charge $500+ a year and I don't give a flick if they include added bonuses it ain't worth 3 to 5 x the money for these so called high end gyms unless you need that extra 1 on 1 or a creche etc

And here in SA they are all over including Norwood which holds the record for some of the highest house prices in SA

Norwood must be their worst gym… it's tiny and all the gear is really old… really needs an update

Their other guns are massive though.. although at this price…u have to deal with so many bros…

I wished they had a gym in syd

      • +5

You haven’t been recently, the Norwood gym is now HUGE and has all new gear

        • Yeah I only go once a year when I get back to adelaide lol

        • +1

          They've upgraded and extended it.

wish they had one near me, their deals are insane! compared to the local gyms around which are $15-20 per week… my work has a pretty slimmed down one which is half price for employees and that's still $10 per week

  • Not in my area but the meals seem basic but potentially convenient/healthy. Looks like some cheapish bundles eg 20 meals for $90 + $15 delivery https://www.derrimutmealsdirect.com/products/summer-healthy-…

I've always been a strong believer in donating my money to the gym. Now I can do it for cheap

    • It's actually subsidizing for others who go to the gym.

Will be so scary to workout with ‘expired’ members.

  • Expired members need gym too?

Hey! I did this post like 5 years ago too.

It was my first and only deal.

    The end

    • Kinda impressive, being around that long and only posting one deal! You reached 50+ upvotes. Why stop there and then?

  • I highly recommend derrimut. I've been going to the Newcomb gym in Geelong which is about 10 minutes from home. It's recently been renovated and the machines and equipment are endless, for $200 a year it's absolutely insane

I've met a lot of people that like the gym but it is well known to be closely linked and owned by organised crime. I couldn't support that. Might be different state to state.

    • +2

If you have any evidence, why didn't you call crime stoppers?

great gym however rubbish that they kept memberships running during the Melb lockdown

  • +1

I took 1 year membership in last November. Don't know whether they will compensate for lockdown days. If they don't this is the most expensive membership.

Since near end of last year, I stopped going to Derrimut gym after many years, I invested in really good $500+ 40kg adjustable dumbbells, a proper commercial 400kg limit adjustable bench, freestand pull up bar and a few various other accessories. I've made better progress and gotten a lot bigger in the time I've been doing that then the same period going to the gym. Why? Because I don't have to work all day and then have to rush to the gym after work, have to deal with it being so busy waiting for machines and equipment, mindset becomes just get in and out and some days felt like more of a chore and harder to get the motivation.

Now at home, I can literally do whenever I want with no time constraints, can focus better, go slower and ends up being quicker anyway. It's not for everyone and yes I can't a do a couple things but can nearly do everything with what I've got and I have never looked back. The only thing I miss is the atmosphere. I learnt different exercises that I realised I could do and also realised that you don't need every type of machine/equipment under the sun to get the same results.

But this is a good deal! Rant Over.

At home workouts, motivation is an issue for me. I am motivated to go to the gym, but at home, I like to relax. You are true about number of equipment. The only thing I use is a squat rack at the gym

      • I definitely understand that. It was hard for me at first but managed to get into a routine and shift my mind. I still love the gym, the atmosphere in itself does help to motivate and the fact that it is a separated place from your home. Also if you trying to do heavy compound strength exercises then home gym is not the best if you don't have a decent squat rack and all the plates you want which I do not have so yeah.. It definitely doesn't work for everyone.

    • which dumbbells did you get?

      • I actually got them from a guy who ships them in with other equipment here in Victoria, west of Melbourne. They are the same design as the Powertrain adjustable dumbbells, 40 kg version if you google them. There are lots of this same design coming out of china but you have to watch out for the cheap versions where the discs that the weight plates sit on are made out of plastic and obviously break but he got a good supplier where these are metal. I've had mine since middle of last year and they are still going strong.. I use them 3-4 times a week. His website is www.kozitsgood.com some people may think he looks dodgy but he isn't. I picked mine up personally from his address but he can ship them interstate for a cost.

  • How does purchasing online work? Buy the membership and then go to the gym to collect it? Or do they send you the key tags etc.

      1. Visit your nearest gym
      2. Show proof of online purchase + ID
      3. ???
      4. Profit
  • anyone going to Macgregor, Qld for review

  • It looks like there's at least one unhappy member
