Firefox and OzBargain

the OzBargain website isn't working too well with my Firefox browser (version 11.0) on windows XP.

Always appears to be trying to download something. Furthermore I can't vote!
It then also appears to affect my facebook session i.e. facebook pages don't come up!
I've tried it a number of times so it's entirely repeatable.

Working well on Chrome so it's not my OzB account …

Any ideas?

  • Do you have any add-ons that may be affecting things?

Perhaps try running in FF in Safe Mode and see if the problems continue?

  • I've been testing a bit this morning. Yes I think something is "stuck" on the front page and new deals page that prevents Firefox from loading. Still trying to figure out what that is.

Interestingly when I tried to use various US VPNs the issue will go away, but if I use Australian VPNs Firefox will not stop loading again. Hmm.

    • no issues that I can see with firefox 11 and Mac OS

    • Tried safe mode but no difference.

Yes Scotty, appears to get "stuck" on the new deals page.

Frequently says in the FF status bar (bottom left or right):
      "Transferring data from www.s2d6.com…"
      or
      "Read s0.2mnd.net"

And the FF spinning activity icon never stops spinning.

      • Edit: nvm

  • Works good here, FF11 Win7

    • Same here. I recently move to FF from chrome though, and did have problems described by the OP. Turned out I had to reinstall the 'Disconnect' addon

  • Came here to search for this exact problem. For me it's been happening for a long time, even before I installed FF11. I'm on Win XP also. Most definitely happens on the main page, but also on pages other than the main - e.g. just happened to this one:

    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/67728

FF seemed to be waiting for something from 2mnd.net. My only plugin is Flashblock (this is a very recent install).

    • Really no idea. I actually registered 2mnd.net to point to an empty website.

  • Right now, FF is waiting on cdn.ozb.me (in one window) and ds.serving-sys.com (in another). This is on FF3.6 on Windows 7.

    • Never had any problem with FF anywhere. Maybe some setting of yours is affecting it. Blocking cookies or domains or something?

BTW 3.6 is ancient. Latest is 11. You should update.

      • I'll update when I want to. In any case, it happens in FF11 as well, if you read the rest of the thread. This is the only site I've seen affected this way. I can live with it, though.

        • Try creating a new profile so that you don't retain any old settings.

    • cdn.ozb.me —> This is the CDN OzBargain has been using (EdgeCast). If you have issue with that, I think maybe somewhere on your Internet link is broken.

What you can do is also try to remove the ads. See this thread on how to turn off ads on your setting page. Most of the ads should be coming from Google, but sometimes Google would show 3rd party ads which might be on servers that have problems.

      • somewhere on your Internet link is broken

This is both at work and at home (even on wireless when I'm travelling).

I'd also rather not remove the ads just to solve this little inconvenience. I'm happy to see the ads and support OzBargain.

  • Never had any problem win7 and ff
