Circles.life Slow Internet Speed with Full Reception

I've been with Circles.Life for quite some time (approaching 2 years yikes), and the 4G mobile internet speeds are still incredibly slow.

Here's an example of a typical speed test result; the test was performed on the 4G network with full signal (4 bars). Speedtest.net result

The results are the same on other mobile devices Samsung or iPhone :(

On a few occasions, I've contacted Circles.Life support. Their customer service representatives instructed my to restart my phone, check the APN, run their own Network Diagnostics, etc. All useless in my case, as it all is setup correctly, but the speed is still painfully slow.

I'm wondering if this is a common problem with Circles.Life? Is it possible that the slow speeds are just limited to my area?

What's the point of having 20GB or 40GB if you basically can't use it, due to slow speeds? Fortunately, I'm mostly on WiFi, which is much faster.

On a side note, I've used other Optus network resellers before, and the speeds were never this slow. To be honest, network coverage is rarely an issue with the Optus network (at least in my experience), but the Circles.Life's internet speed has been terrible.

Issue is probably not you, its them who probably oversubscribed and oversaturated the network.

  • There are many reasons why you may get 'slow' speeds - 8.7mpbs is far from painfully slow.
Data bands for speed are different to those bands required for calls.

For instance Optus Band 40 is better for data.

It also depends what mobile towers are in your area, have you tested this in different locations, you will most likely get different results.

Also not to mention comparing iPhone to Samsung isn't a level playing field in terms of the phones modems and LTE category.
eg Samsung s20 LTE Cat 20 will generally perform better than an iPhone 11 with a Cat 19.

  • You did not indicate what 4G modem you are using, which can be an issue if the 4G signal is not very good.

If your modem allows you to change bands then try locking it to one band at a time and do a speed test. Once you have tested all of the bands then lock the band with the highest speed.

  • This is the speed I had when I was with them few years back, fortunately I didnt take 2 years to decide to move away from them.
    *** Speed test ***
    Latency: 1191 ms
    Download: 1.60 Mbps
    Upload: 4.09 Mbps
    Network Type: Cellular

    Circles strikes again.

Probably have been throttled after giving away free plans and realising you can't run a business when you have no money coming in.

  • I mean…if people are paying what was it? 4 bucks for 30gb for 12months…lol.

It sounds like a cash grab and they'll sink soon

  • I joined Circles.life thinking I would have the same reception and speed as Optus who I used fo multiple years without any problem.
I lasted 1 month. I would have 4g 4 bars with 'internet connection not available'. It was irritating having ongoing connection issues when I have never had a problem with Optus & Telstra. Circles may use Optus, but it's not as good as Optus.
