What do you guys think about it?
It reminded me of the Matrix, Ready Player One, and that Inception scene.
I think the technology looks cool and don't see how it would be any more detrimental over someone being addicted to video games. On the other hand, it would sad to see someone living their life in virtual reality instead of the real world.
It's the same deal as Google becoming a part of a new company called Alphabet.
There's probably some good benefits to such transitions, in terms of privacy laws, anti-trust laws, and taxation purposes. But for plebs like us… it literally means nothing.
They don't give a toss about us, why should we give a toss for them?

If you're going to own nothing and be happy (tm), live in pods and eat bugs then you'll need some incredibly potent bread and circuses to pacify the masses and this garbage certainly will be part of that.
People reduced to the human equivalent of salmon farms, living in a physical space no bigger than a toilet, permanently connected to some dopamine/endorphin/serotonin-releasing tether that gives provides them with VR porn rations for maintaining an acceptable social credit score.

Yeah I think you missed the moral of those films: they're all grim warnings of what happens when technocrats and slavish devotion to technological progress are allowed to enslave mankind.

Huge chunks of the population of Japan and South Korea are already like that and it's more than sad, it's a life unworthy of life.
I agree. How addicting this metaverse could be is worrying, especially with those who just want to escape the realities of this world
Although, if someone spends 2 hours a week playing video games with friends or video calling family members that are overseas, this could enhance their experience.

And as long as you don’t do anything that goes against what meta approves of and don’t discuss anything they don’t like, you’ll be allowed to exist there….more power to big tech oligarchs once this type of thing is wide spread and used for commerce etc

Maybe the part that appeals to Zuckerberg is the ability to hack the brainstem of users directly, turning them into automata to his will. Or maybe its the katanas and underage sex - who knows?
