Question Regarding TRS and Business Name on Invoice

I purchased the new 16" Macbook Pro and I will also be heading overseas around Christmas so I'm right at the cut off of 60 days. However I accidentally forgot to change my Apple account details so when I placed my order, Apple gave me an invoice with my full personal name, address BUT also my company details (my business name & ABN). I will not be claiming this laptop as a business expense as it's a gift.

Will I still be able to get a GST refund at the airport since it still has my personal name and address? Or is the invoice void because my company name/ABN is on it?

I suspect that the TRS will not allow it since they will think I will claim it as a business expense? However I cannot see any rules on the TRS website regarding this matter so I'm not too sure. Does anyone have any idea?

    https://www.apple.com/au/shop/help/returns_refund

just return/refund and buy again for peace of mind.

    • That's what I was thinking of doing but Apple already charged my card and its a BTO model so if I place a new order it won't arrive until december. There seems to be very short supply of the M1 Max models. I'll be leaving around mid december so im cutting it real close, not sure if it's worth the risk of cancelling and reordering.

  • You could always say it is a personal expense and you had the device shipped to where you work, thus the company name. Basically if it satisfies the TRS requirements, then you should get the GST. TRS should not care if you also claim as a business expense - that is an ATO issue.

Doesnt explicitly rule out business purchases on website so it looks like you are safe.

Businesses do give gifts frequently to clients. So cant see why you cant claim a refund for a product you are taking out of the country.
