ISP Sends Payment Reminder for $0

I was with an internet provider that I wasn't happy with, so I gave them the correct notice, and joined another.
I was surprised to receive this email yesterday.

Dear xxxx

This is a reminder that you have not paid your outstanding balance of $0.00 for account 116706 within the Flexipay Payment Term.

Our default payment terms and due dates will now be applied to your account. If payment of $0.00 is not received in 7 days, your service will be suspended and late payment fees will apply.

Should you have questions about your payment terms, contact our collections team here.

Kind regards,
xxxx Broadband Collections Team

I am so surprised that a big company would let this through..

Rip/delete that notice and move on.

Let them send a debt collector, if they insist. Joke's on them.

    • There is a late fee which will be added to the debt so it won't be for $0. It is worth sorting out instead of ignoring.

    Don't pay it

    Dear xxxx

Not your problem. It's not even addressed to SuperMick.

    • xxxx sounds like a bogan in a yellow can who can't afford $0.00

It's just a edge case with programming. Might want to just reply to it or message them on Facebook or something to bring it to the attention of a human.

I know it's tempting to try to do something out of spite (whether it is ignoring it and letting it be sent to a collector or something), but ultimately that might just end up with a lot of inconvenience for you while you wait for people to sort it out after the fact.

Yeah, I'd say that for some reason there's a non-zero amount withstanding, which when rounded is $0.00. Could be $0.001, who knows.

But agreed, not OP's problem but best for them to contact the ISP to get it removed.

No it's not, it's shitty coding.

Is it due to some idiot using floating points to store currency? -> Shitty coding
Is it a time of check time of use for account balance? -> shitty coding.

      Just reply "k"

      • As a real beginner in coding, I'm inclined to agree with you, but don't have the skills to backup such putdowns ;)

      • Edge cases reveal shitty coding, it's both.

It's just shitty coding, you can have edge cases and no problems.

    • Thanks for your help. Its all fixed, I did exactly as you said, thanks again.

  • You may get charged late fees and accounting can send that to debt collections as well put a mark on your credit rating for late payments.

    • No this will not happen, I had some idiots keep "forgetting" to pickup their water cooler.
Then they sent the "debt" for the cooler to collections.

I just said mate you guys never come pick it up, go talk to our legal department. What do you know they came around the next day.

  • Send them a bill for your 5 minutes reading that email and another 10 posting on Ozbargain for social validation.

changed my mind, actually you'd better pay it

  • Had this issue once with Exetel, ever since then learnt NEVER ever provide these companies with your Bank account details (ONLY VISA/MASTERCARDS preferrably prepaid ones). had to waste like 2 hrs on phone with them to have it corrected. Had not held an account with them in like over 1 year, when got this kinda message

  • Is this the mob? https://ipstarbroadband.com.au/good-news-flexi-pay-is-now-av…

Welcome to OzIPStarAccounts please comment on ozbargain.com.au instead of https://ipstarbroadband.com.au/get-in-touch/

    • No I wouldn't contact them first. I always contact ozbargain.com.au first, I thought that's what I had to do

    contact our collections team here.

Have you tried contacting them first? here != OzB

  • Why would I contact them, ozbargain is better at sorting things out.

  • Send them a cheque for $0.00.

    • BPAY for $0.00 is cheaper.

  • I had Cashrewards rejecting $0 claim many times. Would have been good advertising to approve $0 many times instead just to be positive. No one likes rejections.
