        Have never heard or seen anyone having issue with consuming too much sodium or even MSG.

          It seems a bit sensationalistic that salt is called out in the headline.

          “What we know so far is only the tip of the iceberg; we only understand 10 percent of the whole problem,” Nakaji said.

          “What we’ve found so far is that an unhealthy lifestyle, including smoking and or drinking, lack of exercise, excessive intake of salt, all impact on health.”

          “The other 90 percent is problems related to weather, culture, education, income … and lifestyle habits exist on top of these other issues,” Nakaji added.

          So from the researcher quoted in the article, salt constitutes just a fraction of the 10% of the health impact that is understood. It sits alongside smoking — which is well established as having a huge impact on health — but it sounds like the reason salt is being "blamed" rather than smoking is because the latter is harder to get people to change:

          it’s not as simple as telling people to quit smoking, Nakaji said. “The situation would hardly change, and it would be irresponsible for us to say such a thing.”

          It's disheartening that he feels hopeless about improving that, because:

          the prefecture (Aomori) has the nation’s second-highest rate of smoking among men — as well as the highest rate of habitual alcohol use among men.

        I try to reduce my salt intake, but I also worry that the advice to reduce sodium might turn out to have as many caveats and exceptions as the advice to reduce fat intake (including eggs) of yesteryear.

          Not many people understand the medical "scientific" findings of today will easily be overturned by ones of tomorrow. I'm not consuming too much salt in everyday life but it doesn't mean I trust 100% the guy who spent 2 semesters doing his research experiment on 200 people, following by another 10 who backed that finding in the same manner - if anyone knows what I mean. Fact is I have seen in real life people experience low blood pressure due to lack of sodium intake, but not the opposite.

            But keep putting "scientific" in scare quotes, lets us all know what kind of winner you are.

            @HaiG: Not sure where you're quoting a study of 200 people from, but here's some finding from a meta-analysis of 133,000 adults from 49 different countries:

            Overall, roughly half of study participants had high blood pressure. After analysis, researchers found that sodium intake affected adults with and without hypertension differently.

            In both groups, low sodium intake (less than 3,000 mg/day) was associated with 26–34% greater risk for heart events and death compared to moderate sodium intake (4,000–5,000 mg/day). However, high sodium intake (more than 7,000 mg/day) only increased risk for heart events and death in adults with hypertension.

            Findings suggest that a low-sodium diet may not be for everyone. As other studies have shown, too little salt can be harmful in adults with and without hypertension. Authors believe current guidelines may be too low for the general population.

            However, that doesn’t mean that sodium guidelines should be thrown out the window. There’s no question that a low-sodium diet is important for patients with high blood pressure.

            The scientific process can deliver nuance, not just headlines. Unfortunately, nutritional science is particularly prone to sensationalist headlines that strip out that nuance.

          Let me point out a big one: you are talking about processed food.

          People are having this silly salt conversation as though the rest of it is healthy.

          In fact a tried and true model of creating unhealthy processed food is taking cheap, unpalatable grain and adding salt and/or sugar to it so it tastes nice. It's not healthy before the sugar or salt is added.

      Just had them for the first time, yes pretty good broth. Had mine plain but with an egg and some pork belly I would say these are very good.

      the product in that link is imitation tonkotsu (i.e. pork bone broth flavour, without any pork), and personally I found it worse than their actual tokontsu instant ramen. If you want tonkotsu instant ramen, try their Nissin Raou Tonkotsu, which is sold at Japanese food stores.

      As for comparing it to this, as with the hokkaido miso flavour mentioned elsewhere in this thread, the hakata tonkotsu flavour and the kyushu black garlic flavour are distinct, so it’s a bit little comparing apples and oranges and really just comes down to personal preference.
