Yeah but.. tourists still not allowed into Japan

    • Good point. Some people might find this deal useful however

    • +3

Think it might be a risk worth taking considering the price? Are you able to get your money back via a refund or credit if you can’t go on the flight? I think more airlines have tried to offer this to reassure customers when booking flights at this time.

Horses for courses mate. Each person's situation is different. Weigh up the pros and cons and decide. Won't be able to get a refund but a credit is possible. I guess the good thing, you deal directly with the airline.

tbh the price isn't that amazing. it's higher than pre covid. sure cheaper than direct but the added hassle of transit and tests cost. not worth it if you aren't sure

        • Totally agree, but given we have only just started to open upto international flights, this is the best of the lot so far.

    • Yeah, but we have also booked (not with this deal) - so far everything is cancellable so its a free option. Japan has reduced quarantine from 14d to 10d for vaccinated travellers, with an outlook of it being reduced to 3d for business & students: https://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2021/11/02/national/japan-…

The hope is that by next year that would be relaxed for tourists too, I can live with a 3d quarantine period.

  • +3

That's a bit risky though. Japan is one of the strictest when it comes to covid rules on international travellers.

    • True. I guess the choice is yours at end of the day and like you said weigh up the pros and cons.

  • Any deals to India?

    • $800 odd to Delhi? But keep checking the flightfinderau site. If I find them, I will post them!

I've taken this flight before and unless you're planning to do a day trip in Singapore (which I heavily advise against in the current climate as you probably need even more PCR tests, which aren't exactly cheap)..pay the extra hundred or so dollars and fly direct.

Nothing worse than wanting to go home, taking an 8 hr flight to Singapore, sitting around for 8 hours then boarding ANOTHER 8 hour flight back home.

Lots of other airlines like JAL and ANA fly into Haneda airport as well which means you save a solid $50+ not having to catch the Skyliner or the NEX to get out of Narita (which in itself is another 40-50 minute train ride)

Actually the transit times can be as little as 2-3 hours (just need to pick the suitable flights) - if you don't want to do a day trip in Singapore. Given the amount of things that can be done in Changi, 2-3 hours can be minimal.

      • +4

Even 8 hrs in Changi didn't used to be so bad.

        • +2

Check out the jewel! And if you like planes like me, Changi can be a spotters paradise!

          • +3

@flightfinderau: Jewel is in the public area, so you would need to pass through immigration and take PCR tests in order to experience it (unless you just wanted a quick peek, in that case you can take the inter-terminal train which zips you through it for a minute).

            • @soundboy5010: Ah..good point. I didn't think of that. Thanks for pointing that out.

    • +1

Could not agree more. Did it with 2 kids and never, ever again.

Also Changi isn't bloody Disney Land, particularly in the middle of the night.

  • +5

don't forget the cost of PCR test

    Looking at flights to Manila.

    Still 1.9k direct

    Hopefully it drops

    • Wow, I thought you were kidding and had a look - but aside from Jetstar direct one way, connecting back or Cebu - both of which are about a grand (for Cebu!!!), the other options are NOT cheap :/ I see 1700 on Philippine Airways. Fairly sure I paid $600 return when I went :/

      • It will drop eventually as demand for international travel picks up and airlines start putting on more flights.

  • are we allowed to transit between terminals now in tokyo (as visitors?)

    • I am not sure. Do you mean airports? Narita and Haneda?

      • yeah between airports

        • Yes you can if you catch another same day international flight using your own private transport between them.
But you are not allowed to take domestic flight from there until finishing your quarantine.

  • Waiting for flights to South Korea

    • There are some cheap $600 flights with Jetstar if you are interested.

      • I can't seem to find them? I only see Singapore Airlines

  • +4

Given that you can fly MEL-NRT on JAL direct for ~$813 with wider seats and more legroom on your site, the $56 saving for an average 10 hour penalty each way (based on the screenshot) barely seems worth it unless you're an aviation geek (I know, I know… I should hang up my OzB badge for not preferring the absolute cheapest option…)

    • +3

Not just aviation geek. How about those chasing frequent flyer status and miles. Nice way to keep your star alliance gold status current!
