How it got an iPhone 13 Pro Max 256GB "cheap" over 24 months with Telstra 150GB plan?

Not sure if this is a deal or not but today I picked up and iPhone Pro Max 256b on $99 contract for 24 months.

This is the breakdown.

Received a $1200 gift card from JB Hi-fi which I used towards the purchase of the phone.

Then I went to target and purchased $800 worth of gift cards for $720. There is a promo at Target that has 10% off these gift cards. In their current catalogue.

The rest I paid using my own money $19

iPhone 13 pro max 256gb $2019
Jb gift card $1200
$800 gift card for $720

Plus I am also receiveing a $20 a month discount off my plan for 12 months through telstra live chat.

Posting this to help other people looking at buying a new iPhone.

So getting a $1200 gift card is a “hack”?!

Not a hack. I asked them what gift card is available for this plan and the offered my $1200.

Let's compare it to another popular JB deal where you sign up only for one year for $59 per month (after a $10 port-in credit) and get only a $400 gift card.

You will pay $2,136 for your plan with Telstra in two years (79 x 12+99 x 12).

The alternative was to get a $400 gift card from JB but sign up only for $69 per month with a $10 port-in credit. Meaning 59*12=$708 for your plan in 12 months. Even though it is a plan for only one year, the savings is 2136-708=$1428.

However, you are getting a gift card for $400 instead of $1200. The difference of $800 but you could get them at 10% discount so the actual difference is $720.

    $1428 - $720 = $708 in savings with the other deal.

Yes, you need to pay for the second year of your cellular plan but you could have signed up for Boost for $200 per year OR sign up for a new plan with JB a year later.

So I don't think it is a good deal mate, sorry.

      • Funny getting negged because I receive $65 a month back from my employer for my phone plan.

        • +2

If you don't want to get negged then don't brag about free sh*t you get from your employer.
People come here to look for bargains. This thread is certainly not it.

BTW, you haven't even explained how your procured your $1200 JB HiFi gift card. Another windfall from your employer?

  • Boost Sim + get a Apple GC from Coles and Woolies for rewards which are upto a value of $300 in rewards points

      wrong, try again, lol

      boost doesn't have 5G

that's like having a ferrari and only doing 5km per hour. hahaha

that's like having a ferrari and only doing 5km per hour. hahaha

That is a silly comparison. A regular person is highly unlikely to see the difference between 4G and 5G. Besides, iPhone 13 does not support ultrawide bands in Australia.

          FALSE

that's probably the dumbest statement i have ever heard, lol. you obviously dont have 5G or live in woop woop.

i came from iPhone 11 pro max 4G to iPhone 12 5G, and you can really really really really tell the difference. its night and day, its ridiculously fast. no buffering, instant webpages, download and update multiply apps instantly. i don't even connect it to my home wifi because its so fast. also its great to hotspot my kids iPads and they can stream multiple disney movies at once with no hiccups.

roflmao, can't tell the difference between 4G and 5G? hahahahahahahahahah

      • You can confirm with @slavoz

  • i got the same deal earlier this month, but i used the $1200 for an iPhone mini, so i got a free phone. also they gave me a 12 month plan instead of a 24 month plan, because i told them i am not going to be tied down for 2 year. im guessing they had a hard time making there quota for the month so they were able to bargain with me.
i got the $99 250GB plan for 12 months, 2 year plan sucks, i learned from my mistake already.

    • Interested too. Which store did you buy it from?

  • What’s the target promo?

  • How does one get a $1200 gift card so easily?

    • I just asked in store and that's what they offered me.

      • I'm sorry what? Wait so if you spend as much money as you did the $1200 is 'free'? I'm baffled here.

        • For the plan stated above.

          • @dlakers3peat: Ok so that wasn't clear - you should re-word it.

So basically, you got a free $1200 IF you buy a certain plan - not so bad after all. Good stuff.

          • @dlakers3peat: I've done the figures, is that $739 for the phone but then $2136 worth of phone plan, over 24 months.

  • How you get $20 off?
I tried very hard but they refused.

I joined the telstra $69 plan.
