The release date on this page appears to be wrong. Pretty sure it's Feb 25.
    Good deal though.

  • +1

It's been pushed back to 25 Feb.

People are very brave preording games these days

    • +6

      To be fair… From software

      • +14

Cyberpunk has shown us it doesn't matter what reputation the developer/publisher has.

        • -2

Terrible comparison to make, CPR had released what, one maybe two good games prior to cyberpunk. Fromsoft haven’t released a bad game in a very long time.

Also just want to point out I also don’t agree with pre ordering games, unless your getting a cheap price like this.

          • +6

@barge88: Honestly I have no idea why people preorder. They have every right to do what they want with their money, but the only person who wins from a preorder is the publisher. You're paying for something you don't have or in what state it'll be delivered. It's a digital copy. They aren't going to run out.
Yes there are preorder bonuses, but those are rarely worth it.

            • @vanreek: Yeah I agree to be honest. I never pre order anything. I see absolutely no point.
But yeah I would 100% trust from soft more than pre cyberpunk CDPR. Especially as the game is so similar to the previous games.

          • +2

@barge88: I thought the same for Bioware thinking they could do no wrong and I loved Mass Effect 1 and Mass Effect 2 so lets pre-order Mass Effect Andromeda. Oh dear.

I also thought CP2077 was going to be great with all the hype and from what I saw but this time I didn't pre-order it and lucky I didn't.

            • +1

@Kanosha: Yeah, never pre order. Or if you are just get it from eb games so you can return it within 7 days no questions asked (in case people aren’t aware of this)
I get all my games price matched at be games for this reason.

    • agree,

      but also FromSoftware.

    • +1

People can do whatever they please with their money!

      • From software

      • +2

Doesn't make it any less of a fundementally bad decision. You're paying for something you have no idea about. You're essentially ordering mystery meat from the chinese resteraunt down the street.

        • -1

          their money, boo hoo

          • @Kozhutki: Then they turn around and go "Waa Waa I wasted my money how could this happen".
There's nothing wrong about advocating for better consumer purchasing practices.

  • -3

Really… paid before even released? Should get down voted

    • -4

Anyone who has played a fromsoft game knows what theyre in for.

      • +6

You mean a Souls game because From Software has made a lot of bad games over the years outside the Souls series. CDProject Red was thought to have the Midas touch at one point until Cyberpunk 2077.

        • +7

Never prepurchase ever again. I been burned every time

        • +1

Cyberpunk 2077 is a meme. It's a perfectly fine game that was over-hyped by people that subsequently felt betrayed when reality didn't match up to the promises they made up in their heads.

          • +3

@tyme: It was far from perfectly fine when it was released, though playable on PC. It was a dumpster fire on consoles, so don't act like the community didn't have legitimate reason to be upset. That's a weirdly contrarian attitude to take based on the facts.

I wouldn't touch it on anything other than a PC, personally, where now I would agree it's a perfectly fine game.

        • +1

It's been a long while since From made a bad game, but yeah, preorders are still an unnecessary risk.

        • +1

CD Projekt Red has released pretty much all of their games as a buggy mess, people always seem to forget that. Just check this old reddit thread of The Witcher 3 bugs, and this is after several patches: https://www.reddit.com/r/witcher/comments/3o3j0m/110_update_…

      • Pretty much.
Even the "bad" games are worth a buy.
I don't regret getting Dark Souls II on release at all.

  • Is it an instant key delivery or key closer to release?

    • +1

It'll be a key closer to the date, vendors don't get keys this far out.

      • Fair enough. I recently pre-ordered the new Destiny 2 expac and that was instant key delivery so maybe I'm spoilt by that experience.

Still as long as key is prior to release then everyone's happy

        • I suppose it's a game-by-game basis, but generally you'll get it either the week of or the day before.

  • +13

Imagine still pre-purchasing games in 2021

    • Don't need to imagine it's here now lol

  • -1

Added to cart and cannot buy it, dodgy website

    • +3

Website's not dodgy, been around for a long time. You don't have any extensions messing it up?

      • put vpn on and Firefox worked, not sure chrome or real ip which caused the issue

  • +2

Didn't realise this was a FromSoftware game and I thought it looked like a Souls game…

  • CDKeys apparently also has it for $62.99AU atm https://www.cdkeys.com/elden-ring-pc-steam

can anyone speak to how likely either are to come through with the key prior to or immediately upon release?

    • +1

Dunno but isn't CDKeys a reputable seller?

      • +1

I think so? One or two people were saying otherwise in this thread on resetera, but they then got a lot of pushback (https://www.resetera.com/threads/elden-ring-is-47-99-20-off-…)

Actually I can't see it say anywhere on CDKeys that it comes with the pre-order bonuses though? and their FAQ says:

        "Q. Pre-order bonus content?

        A. Any pre-order bonus or additional content is only included if this is mentioned in the product description on our website."

        So hmm.

per that resetera thread, GreenManGaming also apparently had it reduced but it doesn't show up for me

        • I haven't purchased pre-orders from CDKeys (or ever to be honest), but I've definitely bought from them before without any issues. Don't think it'd be a risk factor and you'd most likely get your key on time.

        • cdkeys is grey market but they considered to be pretty reliable

  • +2

i dont doubt elden ring will be brilliant, but my last preorder was arkham knight. The game could be a buggy mess, nowadays most big releases are.

    • +1

Every game could be buggy crap on release. Pre-ordering digital infinite supply products is beyond stupidity.
