Scotty said to have an inclusive meetup we should have the meetup after 1st December when unvaccinated can come
It's not looking like it will happen in NSW till after New Years 2022 with 95% vaccination being required and 10% of people being hesitant to get the vaccine in NSW. Even though 93.8% of people have the first dose some may not get the second and it would require a further 1.2% to get both first and second taking at least 6 weeks from now:

While I want to be inclusive, this meetup is for 30 people anyway and I don't believe we will ever reach 95%. I also think 89.1% of Ozbargainers in NSW are vaccinated as per the state average.

I've changed the date to Friday and venue to Bar Luca, as the ~$15 burgers give us $10pp room to buy drinks and sides. Appropriate choice for Ozbargain's predominantly Middle aged Asian male userbase who work in IT and a great atmosphere to catch up after work.

Scotty:
$25pp is the soft limit, but I also realise that hospitality venues have got a bit expensive over the last 2 years. Keep the receipt.

Scotty on Numbers:
It's also a good idea to have more smaller meetups than a large one where over hundred people turn up, i.e. Melbourne ones in previous years. Let's say cap the number at 30 people, and have more people volunteering organising.

Capped at 30 people.

  • How many meetups are you going to be organising?

    • I'm cancelling the other one, just this one. I've edited the thread and messaged Mods to delete it.

As many as it takes for him to find a girlfriend

      • +10

I'm working on that on a few separate apps. I don't really want a middle aged Asian Boyfriend who works in IT

      • There are other apps more suited to that than the annual OzBargain meet-up!

  • @Scotty are you coming ?

    • Hopefully he can bring the Tshirts I'll shoot him a pm about that when we have more RSVP

      • +3

I can drop off the T-shirts or post it out (although Auspost might not be the most reliable at this time of the year). Saturday isn't the best for me, but the whole idea of meetup is for the OzBargainers to organise the events themselves — we'll be paying.

        • Thanks for letting us know, I like this format :)

  • +1

    Wouldn’t this be hella awkward?

    • +1

Just be supercool and you'll fine

    • I've been here this week to suss it out on Tuesday. Getting in with all 30 may be hard with no bookings allowed, only walk ins, but if everyone arrives at 4.45pm we can be seated for dinner by 5pm hopefully judging by what I saw. The 10% cash discount helps out a lot with the budget too.

      • It doesn't have to be 30. It just can't be more than 30 — I don't think people want to come to crowded events esp with social distancing. I think we can get the party rolling with 15+

        • If more than 30 RSVP can you or a mod lock the poll and find the first 30?

  • You know you can't book a table here right? It's walk in only

    • +1

      OP has acknowledged that already.

      • my bad

    • -1

Hence why we are arriving 4.45pm for 5pm dinner starting time

    Which one's Scotty?

    • +10

I am that middle-aged Asian guy working in IT… Oh wait, I didn't go.

  • -2

Can we get some user name tags on everyone so we can see who is who for those who can't go?

    • +1

Not sure everybody wants their full idenitity revealed apart from being middle-aged Asian guy working in IT

      • Just user name, no need for full name and credit card details

        • +1

pretty sure most ozbargainers have decent collection of fake names and credit card details to choose from

          • @gimli: All those vpn deals?

    • the only person that matters here is scotty, only the true ozbargainer would know what he looks like.

      • Midle aged asian man who works it IT?

  • +1

I've changed the venue to Bar Luca as it's ~$15 burgers allow for drinks and sides and time to 6.30pm after work as I remembered many Ozbargainers work in the City. They also allow bookings online for up to 16 and by email for up to 30.

    • +7

many Ozbargainers work in the City

      WFH life until 2022

  • Scotty can't make Friday, will change to Sunday :)
Don't want to inconvenience him too much

    • Sunday 21st :(
Unfortunately we are closed on this day, but would love to see you another day.
I have changed it to 27th Saturday 6pm, 20th booking are out except for 5pm and 8pm now

      • anywhere you go i'll follow you mate…..

  • +3

@Levity — probably not a good idea to keep on changing dates. I can try to make it to the event on that Saturday. However it's just impossible to plan and vote on the option "I can attend this meetup" when the date for "this meetup" is different every other day.

    • agree lets get back to the korean bbq - more interesting than burgers. hopefully can get 10ppl dont know why not many interested this year. still afraid of covid ?

      • still afraid of covid ?

        no confidence in the organiser?

        • +1

To be fair on Levity, I don't want to share KBBQ with a bunch of OzBargainers/strangers (sorry); I prefer separate meals. I would have said I was going to Bar Luca, but I'm also not a burger kind of person (the Bar Luca ones are great though) and already had plans for all the proposed dates. And now with this latest change, I won't even be in the state (which funnily enough is also why I didn't attend Levity's last one that they organised in 2019.)

      • They wouldn't take bookings and Scotty and others raised some concerns about covid and kbbq.

    • Yes sorry Scotty, I didn't do my research for Sunday it's closed. Last change I promise short of a disaster.

  • Up to 5 now, please make sure you can still come if you've voted Yes

  • Yes yellowfever I can bring my scooter I got it back!

  • I made a booking for 10 today, if 5 more RSVP soon I will make the booking for another 10. They told me 20 is the limit for bookings. They will charge $10 for each person if they don't come so I'm not making more bookings yet.

    • I think you'll find with online, non-committal RSVPs like this that you get a lot of no-shows so if you've only got a handful who have clicked attending, I would recommend not booking for ~double that amount because otherwise you'll end up paying as much for those who aren't at your dinner than those who are.

      • You are right, I will cancel the booking till more people RSVP

  • +1

Sorry Meetup has been cancelled due to having only 4 RSVP's 10 days before the event

  • +2

damn now need to spend $ for my meal on that day

  • any free alcohol?

    • yeah why not as long under the budget

  • Can we reschedule something in the Sydney CBD for mid December?

    • What, two weeks before Christmas? Feel free to organise it.

    • im available too from 14 dec for lunches
