Should ProGadgets provide a refund for this watch case?

Keen to hear others' thoughts

I bought this case for my Samsung Watch4 from ProGadgets. Listing here

The issue is that when the case is on, the watch can't get wet. Water pools between the case and the watch meaning that the case has to be removed so that it can dry (and then needs to be cleaned to get rid of the streaks). The watch can't be used until the case is removed and dried/cleaned.

My argument is that a case shouldn't negate the waterproof functionality of the watch (the watch is waterproof without the case). And the listing says "Made to flaunt the Galaxy Watch just the way it is."

ProGadgets don't agree with my reasoning.

My argument is that a case shouldn't negate the waterproof functionality of the watch.

It doesn't though. Water ingress between case and watch doesn't affect watch's own functionality.

The case is doing it's purpose as a protective case. It doesn't claim to offer waterproof layer between it and watch.

Don't see why the seller would take a hit for this, sorry.

    • Thanks for your thoughts.

The watch is waterproof without the case on. Water gets between the case and the screen, making the watch unusable unless the case is removed and everything is dried/cleaned.

The watch is still waterproof with the case on. Why get hung up on that part?

Does the case mention anything about use in water?

My issue is that the watch isn't really waterproof with the case on. Sure, it doesn't damage the watch, but the watch becomes unusable until the case is removed and dried

@Pineapples: No, the case does not affect the waterproof rating of the watch, it is the case itself that is the part that is not waterproof. This is akin to putting a gel case on the pack of your phone and complaining that water got between the case and the phone,

Did the case come with an IP rating?

Can’t wait for your next thread where you complain that dust got under the cover…

I notice on the spigen website reviews also say if water gets under the cover the touch screen stops working as well (until you dry it out).

I guess I could've done more research before I bought it. I just assumed it'd be fine.

        /thread.

        • To be honest, without even reading the reviews or this post… I knew instinctively that product will trap some dust and water in between. It is very obvious. OP just isn't dialled in to the working world like the rest of us.

With that said, this watch won't ever dent. Its too small and dense.
It may get scratched or even scuffed. But that's no biggie.
The bigger issue would be a cracked screen, so you should just take the risk. Or if you are risk-averse then apply a Glass Protector on the face of the watch.

I personally think a Watch is one/only item for men that is about aesthetics. It's a fashion item first, and functionality second. We don't get many options compared to women. So I think you really should be going commando with this piece of tech. Anyways, this is the latest Samsung Watch 4, and it will be relevant for maybe 3 years (more if lucky)… so personally I wouldn't be too concerned about scratches, and a lot of people agree.

Case in point: Apple Watch is the most popular watch in the world (yes, more popular than regular watches if you look at the sales figures), and its a pretty exposed device, more fragile than this one. Yet, the majority of people (and I'm talking +90%) are using it and wearing it without any protection. So that's saying something. On the other hand, it is one of the ugliest watches that I've ever seen, so what would they know?

Why ruin the watch with a cover. Just get a glass screen protector and be done with it.

    • The case protects the sides as well (and the glass goes right to the edges)

Scars and stitches are sexy on men and their watch ; )

    Lucky you didn't get a 15k Rolex.
Its a Samsung smartwatch and would be obsolete in 2 years even if you had it buble wrapped throughout the whole time. Wear it, enjoy it and stop stressing about scratches and dents. Apply a screen protector if you worry about the glass and call it done. I think you will be best mates with the guy who was worrying about going camping in the new car.
