Vornado Whole Room Air Purifier AC350 $229.99 Delivered @ Costco (Membership Required)

190

Was looking for an air purifier because hayfever season and prepping for bushfire smoke. This seems to be a good value for money air purifier. Most decent air purifiers run in the $200-300 range. Don't have a Xiaomi to compare but the brand Vornado has been around for a very long time and has good 5 year warranty.

Most other places are selling this unit for $300+ so Costco is actually doing better than 25% off including delivery.

Can only find the genuine filters from the main Vornado site so if anyone knows of a cheaper alternative (Amazon sells some third party ones from overseas so figured for a little bit more you get genuine filters)

Read online Hepa filters can be replaced yearly and the carbon one every half year but if you run on the low setting can be longer (so another $105.98/year if you want to change filters)

Hepa Filter $75.99 https://vornado.com.au/collections/air-purifiers/products/he…
Carbon Filter (2 pack) $29.99 https://vornado.com.au/collections/air-purifiers/products/md…

The Vornado AC350 Whole Room Air Purifier uses true HEPA filtration to remove up to 99.97% of airborne allergens down to 0.3 micron in size, trapping Dust, Pollen, Pet Dander, Smoke, Bacteria, Mould Spores, Dust Mites (and more) while the Carbon Filter adsorbs odours and traps larger particles.

The AC350 Air Purifier utilises Vornado’s signature Vortex Action to actively circulate and filter all the air in the room. Without powerful circulation, the air cleaner is only cleaning the immediate area around the unit. Instead, the AC350 uses a radial blower to intake and clean all the air in the room. Precision engineering allows the blower to operate quietly, despite its powerful air flow.

The Vornado AC350 Air Purifier is recommended for a room size up to 20sqm to ensure effective air purification. The smaller the room, the more often the air is circulated through the unit, as it’s able to bounce air off walls and back through more frequently. To break it down even further, in a room the size of 20 square metres, the AC350 is cleaning the air every 11 minutes for Pollen, 12.5 minutes for Dust and 15 minutes for Smoke.

  • How is this compared to Breville?

    • +7

I looked at the $229 Breville Air Purifier and compare

      Room size suitable
      Breville - 15-25 m2
      Vornado - up to 20 m2

      CADR (clean air delivery rate)
Breville - 70 (found from Bing Lee website)
      Vornado (from main site)
      CADR Dust 152
      CADR Pollen 170
      CADR Smoke 142

      Warranty
      Breville - 2 years
      Vornado - 5 years

      Filter
      Breville - $49 per filter(Bing Lee), change every 6 months = $98/year
      Vornado - 2 separate filters = $105.98/year

      Power consumption
Breville - 12 W (not sure if max or low setting)
Vornado - 96 W (bit higher than expected, double that of Dyson model in cool mode)

Yeah interested to know noise level cause my vornado fan is like an jet engine

    • I'm actually still awaiting the delivery and I'm used to the Vornado sound on medium and low settings so assume on those settings should be like "white noise". On high setting should be the jet engine sound level so probably won't use that setting unless I forgot to close the window overnight

    • +1

I have one, and jet engine is right. I don't think there's a way to avoid that though in these portable appliance type units. For anything to have a decent chance of cleaning the air, it needs a lot of airflow

    • There are a number of reviews on Amazon, some of which talk about noise (bar highest setting OK'ish)…………….pity you appear to need to be a costco member to order

This is cheap unit however without a washable pre filter and no third party filter supply, it's gonna be expensive to run

    • +1

Hoping someone knows of a third party filter supply because filter cost is similar to other brands (at around $100 for genuine filters). OEM/third party usually runs about $40-50 for other brands so hoping the Vornado filters can reach that price point too

    • Yup the one big reasons we have the Philips ones.. washable pre filter

      • How often do you wash it, and how long will the philips filter work before being replaced? On the lookout for an air purifier and the Philips look good, but I'm abit concerned about the cost of replacing filters.

We have 2 very very very large dogs who let off alot of hair and we get alot of breeze through our house but unfortunately get alot of dust. Predicted gets washed every few months and the other filter last atleast 6months if not a year. Buy replacement ones off Amazon way cheaper and original

    Thought it was a PS5

    • Of course it's not. It's in stock!

    • I thought it was a toilet hand dryer. Probably just as useful too rofl

  • Xiaomi 3H has good reviews on choice, more capacity and same price.

    • Also the official HEPA filters for Xiaomi are more than half the price..

  • Blueair are better. And quieter. Bur you will need a 2nd mortgage to buy one.

It has 3 speeds and auto mode to ramp up and down depending on dust or smell. Has a 1,2,4 and 8 hour timer. And has a little remote if your lazy like me.

Sleeping from 6 feet away is fine. Not loud, Very quiet. If it's warm overnight it acts like a ceiling fan but not direct air so you won't get a cold.

Again well worth it if you have the $$$

    • Ouch, looked at basic model online around $1.2k and filters are $350+?

    • “ but not direct air so you won't get a cold.”.

      Can you explain more please?

      • -1

        Sure.

The breeze from the fast-moving blades of the fan can cause moisture to evaporate from our bodies, resulting in extreme dryness that causes a sore throat.

Additionally, it’s no secret that breathing in excessive amounts of dust can have negative effects on the respiratory system. Unfortunately, the constant movement of fan blades can attract dust from every corner of the bedroom.

These amounts of dust are circulated throughout the room, making you even more exposed to the dust. Since your body is already very dry from the cool breeze and constant exposure to dust during the night, a sore throat in the morning is practically inevitable.

In addition, sleeping with a fan can be detrimental to chronic nasal congestion and other sinus infections, such as post-nasal drip.

TLDR; A air purifier captures dust and other particles and indirectly blows air around the room. So better for you and your lungs.

  • Saw on catch & Amazon for $240, is this the actual SRP? (Like most things with a jacked up RRP but always on 50% off?)
Haven't looked into purifiers much so not sure if this is a good deal or not. thanks!

  • Eh Amazon has better options and third party filter seller on Aliexpress are plenty.

  • Google around there seems to be other places with similar prices.

  • Would be interesting to see how this compares to the range of Xiaomi air purifiers.

But hard to justify the costs.

Replacements filters at $105.98 are almost half the price of the unit. With that money you can get a new purifier with included filter like:
Xiaomi Mi Air Purifier 2H for $119 https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/628383
For a little more Xiaomi Air Purifier 3H $159 https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/627110
