Groupon not worth dealing with

Groupon sold a voucher $139 for Total Body Cosmetic Clinic, Toorak

This business does NOT answer emails doesn NOT answer calls and does NOT respond to a newly established online booking service.

Groupon do NOT make restitution despite the fact that the coupon will expire after 2 months of unreturned calls and overselling the offer. They tell you a 'team leader' will respond to your call (which takes about 30 mins to get answered) and nobody calls back. Finally by insisting to speak to the team lead I was passed to another customer care officer who refused to be identified by anything other than 'Rachel'. She told me it is up to the merchant - who doesn't answer calls, emails, booking requests - to refund me! Total scam and appalling customer service. Never again!

I called the ACC and under section 36 of Australian consumer law Groupon are obligated to either provide me with the goods or a refund, not the merchant who may or may not even exist.

  • Thanks for the links rinbond - great info!

Bought this below deal from them and on my credit card, there was a charge for conversion fee of $1 eventhough i paid AUD
I rang Woolies credit card and they told me groupon au is probably offsetting the business account overseas hence they charge me the conversion fee which woolies passed on to me
Sounds dodgy? Im sure that I didnt see such condition prior purchasing the deal. Unless they have other T&C?

    Anyone experienced this?

found this on the company's T&C; need to contact Groupon for refund (Not sure if it worth the $1, based on kme3193 experience

5.3 bla…bla…bla… Our payments are processed via an overseas gateway and from time to time, your financial institution or payment provider may charge you an additional fee for transacting with us because of this. If this occurs, please contact our customer care team who can arrange a refund for this fee.

  • Wow that is rich! They are a Washington DC company and I guess they consider that they can set up shop here and thumb their nose at Australian consumer laws

I have just filed an ADMA complaint against groupon. First ADMA complaint I have filed.

It is very easy. Took five minutes.

  • I paid through paypal and because it has taken so long for me to realise the company was never going to contact me and nor was Groupon its now over 2 months since I bought it. Screwed with paypal because they only give you 30 days :(

Voteoften it will be me next. Their attitude is unreal. This Rachel told me if I didn't stop talking and listen (to her telling me they were NOT going to do a thing) she would cut off the call. I wasn't yelling, cussing, being abusive - merely asking to be put through to her superior, someone who had the power to help. Unreal!

It only takes 5 minutes. Do it. That online form is great. You see, it ends up costing the GB companies more to attend to the ADMA complaints than it does to just do refunds (where refunds are appropiate).

groupon, ouffer, teh same organisation. I had to complain to fair trading nsw [postman] and they evaded every issue raised. most businesses or citizens or leaders are not educated in ethics or morality.
    their god is money.
holden today is asking for a $20M handout.
    the government will oblige.
the citizens will not be looked after.
businesses do not make a country great

citizens of ethics and morality do.

the nsw postman [fair trading dept] is a eunuch.
they set up laws they do not enforce, and cannot tell businesses they are wrong.

that is up to you to fight it out case by case in a tribunal where businesses have the money nous and power and lawyers to outgun you.

the shadow MP NSW opposition are just ghosts, they never do more than act as postmen for the minster's rubber stamps.
law and order exists only for the rich, powerful and famous.
