  I'm curious - now that paid antivirus software has moved to this subscription model, what happens to your BitDefender at the end of the year?

  1. Does it go by calendar year, or by the date you register the software?
  2. When that date arrives, do you lose all functionality, or does the software just stop updating?
  3. Why would you go through the hassle of having to replace this software every year when you could just use the perfectly fine (and perfectly free) Microsoft Security Essentials? Or another of the free ones such as AVG?

    1. You get a year from when you register the software.

    2. I'll tell you when I get there, My guess would be you lose all functionality and it just keeps pestering you to renew.

    3. The only reason that I personally use this is for the firewall. I'm not specifically a Bitdefender fan or anything, I feel they all offer the same "level" of security (virus and rootkit wise). I used to love AVG IS but it became too bloated and the PC TuneUp add on is just crapware. Trend is too difficult to use, I like Avast but never ponied up the cash for it.
