iPhone XR or 11 128GB

Should I get an iPhone XR ($679) or an iPhone 11 ($929) from JB-HI-FI or wait for a better deal.

I’m looking to buy outright as I’m on the Woolworths $20/ month subscription plan and none of the Telstra deals make sense over the term of the contract.

Was considering the 12 mini as well but I want 128gb and that was over $1000.

Any suggestions for deals or waiting?

I've had an XR since launch and I've loved it but it's started to lag a little with Google Chrome. Not sure exactly what the issue is but I'm presuming it's starting to not have enough juice to run demanding apps.

The camera isnt very good either as compared to current iphones (presumably also against iphone 11) so if thats a priority then I would get the 11 over the XR.

    • Thanks, it’s a hard decision though.
When I look at the 11 I keep jumping to the next one up.

Well if you plan to stick with the phone for a while (more than a year or two), go for the 11. If it's more of a temp phone whilst you wait for the next iPhone or whatever, the XR will do just fine for most phone needs, ie. camera, performance, etc. Both obviously perform calling and texting just fine.

    • I’m looking for a phone to use for 3+ years.

  • Why not discount apple gift cars then get the 13 mini?

  • What's your current phone?

    • iPhone 7

      • I just upgraded my 7 plus to a used XR 128gb with 94% battery from fleabay for $430. I thought it would be a better value than a brand new XR for $679. my 2c

        • Generally I don’t mind owning pre-owned, but if I’m holding onto a device for a few years I would rather it new.

          • @Brannolte: In that case, only you can decide if paying an extra $250 for a one year newer phone is worth it to you.

I decided to save $500 (over the 11) and get a mildly used XR, which is only one year older.

            • @oscargamer: Thanks, i may hold out till the end of the month and see if the 11 or 12 mini magically have a special on them. I know it’s rare but you never know.

  • Sorry this may not be what you are looking for. I would not bother purchasing a new phone that’s 3+ years old given you are going to use for another 3+ years. You are better off spending bit more and getting a iphone 12 or 13 mini.

Reasoning is based on software support, resale value and 12/13 having oled panels.

    • I don’t disagree, phones are just getting quite expensive and white the XR and 11 are lcd that doesn’t bother me so much.

The 13 does not interest me as the screen can’t be replaced outside of apple.

  • I have the XR and love it , it is my first iphone though ive been using android for years but made the change to the iphone and havent looked back since . The camera is great on mine if i had to buy new again i'd still buy the XR .
