2 in 1 Laptop for Parent - up to $2000 with a Bright Screen?

Hi everyone,

I'm looking at selecting a 2 in 1 laptop for a parent. Budget up to $2000, ideally 14" minimum with 300nits brightness. Have done quite a bit of searching, and found this to be the frontrunner:

Lenovo Yoga 7i 15

15" touch, 500nits glossy, 8GB RAM / 256GB SSD / i5 - $1949

I had a Dell Inspiron 14 5410 listed, but have read conflicting measurements for nits (225 to 300nits).

Does anyone have any other recommendations? I've seen mixed reviews on Asus and HP (build quality and weight), so Dell and Lenovo appear to be better from what I've seen.

These appear to be a bit of overkill for general office use / video watching, but the 300nits screen models appear to be over $1500. I want it to have outdoor use when needed.

Is it worth waiting for a sale or Black Friday as well?

Thanks for your help!

I got Suface Book 2 (top range model in 13 inch) for ~3.5 years. Regret buying extended care warranty. - Cant get any better review, I desperately wanted something to be wrong with my surface book, But to be really honest never got any Problem with it (other than some occasional blue screen, and some decrease in battery life). Still going as strong as it was when new. Just wish i had bought a lower spec model as i never used the top model features.

Its just that good laptop honestly, and Microsoft's own customer service is also SO DAM good (better than any other manufacture's service)

    • Thanks! I hadn't looked into Surface models, will check them out

As an ex Dell employee, I won't recommend it just because of how shit their service is, you don't want your parents to go through it. I have been using a surface book 2 from the past couple of years and just upgraded to a laptop 4. Absolute stunning service.

    • Oh wow, thanks for the heads up

What has being a parent to do with this?

Easy to handle, not super fragile and good service maybe?

      • Maybe, who knows? It is a redundant statement in OP's post, as there are plenty of non-parents who probably use the same type of device for the same purposes.

        • Could just be rapport building statement.

          • @abs898: Maybe; again, who knows.
Or maybe OP is trying to say that they want to buy the laptop for their parent, and we should therefore assume that it needs to have large keys, large screen, etc.

            • @GG57: Com'on, when people post on this forum, asking what is the best phone, you just know their requirements via telepathy!

Definitely for a 30 year old mum who just gave birth.

    • I did wonder this, but I am fully vaccinated.
