  Is there any deal for the hard disk at the moment?

  Any recommendations if planning for:

  • Personal files/photo backup
  • download and stream 4k videos to TV
  • testing virtual machine for small business

  Any good practice to leverage the 4 bays? Disk size? Speed?

    Just bought this NAS (thanks OP!) and quickly had a look for some drives. Ended up going with the 8TB Ironwolfs, decent price at $262 I think.

    I have run a Plex server with the 4TB versions fine on my DS218+ so don't think I need much more. I backup all my photos and files on it also.

      Thanks for the suggestion, but if only 8TB is enough, may I know what's the reason you consider upgrading for a 4 bay NAS?

        Basically I wanted more storage with some level of redundancy. So having a 4 bay nas would let me set up a RAID5 array. I.e. 4x 8TB you’d have 24gb of storage with one disk of redundancy.

        Sure I could of run raid 1 in the two bay but wouldn’t of had the same capacity.
