Nup - too expensive for the spec.
    Lots of RAM but slow.
    Old CPU.

    nah

  • 9th gen, really?

    • Cost of 12th gen nuc will be interesting with the hybrid cores and scheduler, etc.

  • Feels like a perfect home lab/server with a virtualised pfSense as router/firewall

    • Had considered this at one point but the price is just not worth it. You can find 7th gen i7 dell/hp/lenovo usff machines for much cheaper. Granted these NUCs often have thunderbolt but you can use a m.2 adapter to add a 4port nic to the other machines.

For those complaining that the cpu is old.
I have this CPU in a dell inspiron 15.
I run multithreaded CFD simulations on it, and multithreaded complex non-linear python loops.
It runs like a champ, it can handle simulations running in parallel on 12 threads easily, and even on a laptop it can maintain a high CPU frequency on all 12 cores (at least 3-3.3 Ghz, depending on the weather tbh) for a long time.

Love the form factor but price to specs are a bit meh.

Problem with Ghost Canyon (which is what this is), is that you cannot fit full factor PCIe Graphics cards in it. It's actually the reason I never bought one although I was very tempted. Very hard to find mini versions of high spec graphics cards. They DO exist but pretty average specs.

BEAST Canyon however can fit full size PCIe cards. Much better proposition. Probably the reason these ones are being sold off cheaper now my guess. Stocks of Beast Canyon are JUST starting to trickle through.
