Hi Lil,

Thanks for your reply.

I rang Strathfield Golf Club on the 2nd of March to try to book a golf session, however they told me that gear hiring will be $25 per person and they will require at least 7 days booking in advance which was never mentioned on the condition. Also the customer service was very rude, extremely unhelpful after I mentioned that I bought tickets from Scoopon.

I was under the intention that nothing extra to pay to purchase the deal for me and family as I never played golf before to trial if that's something I will take part in the future. However obviously the golf club is not very professional in dealing with my purchased voucher, the overall gearing hire will be $50 in total, which has exceed the value of the Scoopon and I was really disappointed with how the golf club staff in handling my request.

As a loyal Scoopon member, I have always believe Scoopon deals are great, good for value, enjoy and no fuss to use. Unfortunately I have to say, not this time. Thus I would request full refund for this voucher and would like nothing to do with this golf club which they do not interest in Scoopon Members.

In the end, I sincerely wish Soopon is able to offer its member deals that true bargain, thus more and more people will join Scoopon.

Thank you

One more warning: Strathfield Golf Club does like Scoopon coupons, I am pretty sure they won't like Ozbargainer.

  • Rube!

    • Typo, thanks for point it out.

  • For reference this is the link http://www.scoopon.com.au/deals/5657/49-for-a-round-of-golf-…

It doesn't mention gear hire. I've never golfed but this seems like a package that would suit experienced golfers (those who have their own set of clubs). IMO, this seems fair.

As for an arbitrary 7 day booking notice, that seems a bit necessary. Fair enough if they don't have bookings for the next 7 days but seems strange. Anyway, I suppose that can be worked around.

I'm not entirely sure you have a case for a refund as you can still use the deal.

  • Aside from the rude service which you're entitled to be annoyed about, I think you're actually being a little unreasonable. Nowhere in the deal posted above does it mention club hire which is always extra when you book a round of golf and $25 for club hire is a reasonable price. Some golf courses are booked out way in advance so 7 days for a booking isn't that unusual either.

  • Sorry but I agree with Neil. I buy group deals quite often but I am meticulous in making sure I get what I paid for. For this however, it only mentions the inclusion of the buggy, not clubs, and it does say that bookings were essential and they have every right to allow bookings at any time during the voucher period.

Hopefully you know someone that plays golf and may be able to use their clubs???

  • If you have never played golf, it would be a good idea to buy a voucher to take lessons. If you do not know what you are doing, I guarantee you will feel like a complete and absolute fool. And you'll look like one too. There is a lot involved in golf.

While you may not have anticipated the need to pay for golf clubs, you should learn from this mistake.

I suggest you put the voucher on ebay as soon as possible and that you start it at a dollar. If you try to get the amount you pay, you will lose the entire value because no one will pay it. If it is a valuable voucher, it'll be bid up.

  • The problem is when I try to book in advance 7 days, never have spot available.

    • Is it 7 days or at least 7 days? If it is at least 7 days, book now for the first available appt. Just call and say gimme your next available tee time.

I really think you should give this a miss if you have never even had lessons. Golf is really involved.

  • This is not about Golf, no matter what you buy from deal company, it's same old story, you have to book in advance and you will never get booked thus void your deals. Anyway have submit the case to ADMA as they clearly stated that group deal compnay should list refund policy on their website, easily accessable by customer, which Scoopon fail to do so.

    • Don't take this the wrong way, I do sympathise with you but I don't see on what grounds you should get a refund.

      Your 3 contentions are:
      * Rude
      * Need to book at least 7 days in advance
      * Renting of golf clubs are additional

Refund for rudeness, dont think so. The booking at least 7 days advance falls under subject to availability. Equipment rental you may have a case on but it really is implied when you play golf. Or more specifically it wasn't stated that you would get equipment.

As for the ADMA Group Buy CoC, it's a voluntary security theatre, cooked up by the group buy companies. You are better off doing a chargeback via CC. When you tried making a booking they told you it was going to be more than 7 days, so they did have a time/date for you to play?

      • Rudeness is in the eye of the listener.

If you are getting what you want, any tone of voice can be a sweet sound. If you are being told no, it is very easy to claim rudeness.
