Robinhood Hacked with Over Seven Million Users Affected

Over seven million accounts of popular crypto-friendly trading app Robinhood have been compromised in a recent data breach.

The popular investment app Robinhood announced recently that it experienced a data security breach on November 3, 2021. The incident gave the attackers access to personal information belonging to millions of users on the platform.

The “unauthorized party” gained access to the customer support system via a social engineering technique, Robinhood stated in a blog post.

Although the security threat has been contained according to the investment platform, the attackers had already gained access to a limited amount of customers’ information.

Not sure why anyone would use Robinhood.

It isn't the same as normal exchanges, you are basically playing around with monopoly crypto akin to an IOU with option to get crypto.

They have a really really really bad reputation on Reddit.

is there any consequence to companies that let personal data be leaked?

yes a stern finger waving by the authorities.

Yes, if they are a small business, non-white, or combination of it, they could get fined heavily with potential jail time. Hurting one multi million business will kill the economy, haven't you heard?

    • I'm not familiar with overseas jurisdictions (except that the EU comes down VERY hard on this), but in Australia has civil penalties and there is a current bill/consultation out to strengthen the penalties
