Fire Retardant Filing Cabinets

I know this is kind of a weird request and maybe a niche item therefore not readily available. I'm hoping someone here may know someone or previously purchased a similar item?

It's to be used for storing documents that need to be kept safe, very safe!

Anyone know where I can source one resonably priced?

Thank you :)

  • Safety deposit box?

Sorry, very unhelpful. I know you can get fire resistant small box safes….

    • NO Im looking for something bigger. Approx 90cm wide x 100cm Length and 60cm deep.

  • A safe?
A filing cabinet in the traditional sense would be almost impossible to prevent fire… it just doesn't have the seal to prevent fire to enter not to mention the metal would be way too thin to protect it from anything, would more than likely melt than anything… Only thing I can think of is an actual safe in the size you're looking for, well a bit bigger than that and then shove a filling cabinet inside that.

    edit:
A quick google and this came up as the first result

You're looking for something like that?

    • Yes, something like the 'paper cabinet' pictured on that website. The problem is they want over $3000 dollars for it which is absurd!

      • Well, it depends. How valuable are your documents? If they're important enough to keep in a fireproof cabinet, I would expect they're worth more than $3000 of hassle?
There are certain things in this world that can be 'cheaped out on'.
Medical procedures, vehicles and insurance are among a these things.
In my own personal opinion, if I need to really protect my documents, I'd shell out and get it over and done with. Because at the end of the day, you're after a giant safe that can withstand fire for an hour.

well thats about the price. my family sells those back in malaysia. and they are about the same price as well. and its very heavy and have to deliver. thats why they are charging at this rate. they are very very durable.
the question comes down to whether your documents are really worth 3 grand?

another famous brand would be CHUBB. fire cabinets do have different sizes and also wondering if your documents would include MONEY. because bank notes cannot be left inside the safe box. they cant take the heat in a fire.

have a look at this as well. http://www.safesales.com.au/dev/
any company that sells safe deposit boxes will sell fire resistant cabinets.

  • You would need a truck and a crew to install something like that. It would have to be within a reasonable distance from where you live.

  • Hi Lovedeals - did you find the cabinet you're looking for?

  • @alphonso89 Thank you for the link. I was looking for a safe myself.

@pao2x don't they just dynabolt them into the ground?

@petey, please take note that depending on what you plan to store, if just passports and important documents, a normal safe would do. but if its something really expensive like jewellery and diamonds, you might one something that is very heavy. something that 2 or 3 person cannot lift it up.
they are some safe deposit boxes that have small little wheels for ease of moving but that would be easier for the thieves too.

not all cabinets are bolted. most of them are heavy enough and dont need to be bolted. same goes to the safe too.

  • @alphso89 Thanks. I'm gonna be building a house in the near future so I'm gonna get one installed at time of build. I'm looking at my options. I'll be storing documents, jewellery and bullion. Thanks for the info!
