Thoughts on the Pedal Comet ST?

Has anyone got experience with the Pedal Comet ST from 99 bikes?
Looking at a few electric bikes and it's looking like the best value but I can't find any reviews to gauge the reliability

  • looks ugly

i think aldi had one for $999, similar ugly frame. lol

  • I think 'Pedal' is the 99 bikes house brand so you may not find too many reviews. While you may not have any luck finding reviews on the bike, you may find other bikes use a similar electric motor and battery combo and could find some feedback on that?

    • Found a review of the motor. Seems inexpensive and reliable.

However, given how inexpensive the motor is, and the relatively low featured frame (how much is an equivalent battery less bike? $650?) , it's not a crazy bargain or anything.

Best thing would be to go instore and try it if you can.

      • Cheers for the review link
With the current sale it's 1085 Inc the gold membership, plus a $100 gift card
Took it for a test ride yesterday and it seemed pretty good, but I know basically nothing about ebikes

        • I hear maintenance for e-bikes is quite expensive, you should ask the staff about maintenance and costs associated for i.e parts, servicing.

          • @innov: Maintenance for an e-bike shouldn’t be significantly different to a normal bike. The motor/battery should need virtually no routine maintenance. However, repairs to the motor and battery may be pricey.

        • I know basically nothing about ebikes too! If it feels pretty good then that's a good sign. You won't really know if it has any shortcomings, or how fantastic it is, until you've lived with it. At least reviews can give you some idea about longevity of those components you may not be aware of (i.e. battery, motor).

Had a quick look on bike exchange and nothing comes close in price to the 'Pedal'

Still doesn't mean it's necessarily a bargain, but it is cheaper than the competition. There does seem to significant markup in the ebike category (i.e. final price seems greater than bare bike + battery + motor) but I guess they are putting it all together for you. One needs to be realistic tho, as I don't think bargains exist in this current supply chain constrained environment.

  • Without the e-bits it’s a fairly cheap bike. Tourney and Revoshift are found on pretty ordinary basic bikes. should be functional. The e-bits are of decent quality so should work fine.

    • That was my concern too. The underlying bike is pretty cheap, and certainly the prediscounted price of 1.5k wouldn't really justify the motor and battery. But even if it's a 'cheap' bike, would still probably be ok.

  • Just bought this bike from 99bikes for $899 and Im loving it. It's powerful enough and best of all, the controller (bafang) is adjustable and easy to remove the 25kph limit. It now does 32kph on flat without any effort. Recommended.

    • Care to share how you found how to do that?

    • Are you able to share how you tuned the controller?

    • I'm looking at buying the same bike - how was it been for you these past couple of months?
