[NSW] Harbour Bridge/Tunnel Toll Exemption for Owners of Vehicles Modified for Hand Controls & DVA Gold Card Holders: E-Toll Req

210

Another OzReminder, but one that may be genuinely useful for any veteran or physically disabled OzBargainers because it seems to be buried on the NSW Government website. Essentially you get free tolls on the Harbour Bridge and Tunnel if you hold a DVA Gold Card, or have a vehicle modified for hand controls registered in your name.

You'll need to either sign up for a NSW Government E-Toll account if you don't have one (or already have an E-tag account through Linkt), which is free with no deposit, and go to a Service NSW office with your proof of entitlement to claim the exemption.

According to the relevant section of the NSW Government E-Toll Terms and Conditions:

11.1 If You have a current Veteran Gold Card or a Vehicle modified with hand controls for a disabled driver and you apply for an E-Tag Account or an Easy Toll Account:

(a) You may be exempt from some Fees relating to the E-Tag Account or an Easy Toll Account, as set out in the Schedule of Fees and Payment Methods;
(b) You can use Your Vehicle to make unlimited Trips on the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Sydney Harbour Tunnel without paying any Tolls. You must, however, pay all Tolls incurred by Your Vehicle on other toll roads in accordance with these TfNSW E-Toll Terms and Conditions.
(c) You are required to open Your E-Toll Account at a Service NSW Centre and:

(i) show Your Veteran Gold Card; or
(ii) provide a copy of Your registration papers showing the ‘87 condition’ recorded against Your vehicle.

(d) Clause 11.1(a) and 11.1(b) apply with respect to only one Vehicle and one Tag
registered to Your E-Toll Account.

Sorry i cant help it….When you say hand controls, you mean a steering wheel right?

    • +1

Well put it this way, a person with a wheelchair can't walk, maybe they could brake and accelerate some other way????

      • Generally it's one lever under steering wheel. Push for brake, pull for throttle (or a few other option..) My current set-up has electronic throttle which is fairly common now…

  • What nothing for us amputees!

  • Or Drive with!

  • As an addendum I would caution you not to use a DVA card of any sort to get a fee exemption for a firearms license in NSW.

If you do, weapons licensing will insist that you provide them with a full psychiatric evaluation to show that you are a fit and proper person to possess a firearm every time you renew.

No matter if you are TPI or white card special condition and no matter if you have received treatment for PTSD or another mental health issue.

    It is a trap.
