Please Recommend a Coffee Machine (Which Will Work with 3rd Party Nespresso Capsules)

Hello Fellow OzBargainers,

So our $29 Kmart Coffee Machine from 2012 has been collecting dust and I decided to buy some cheap pods without checking if the machine still works or not. And not to my surprise the Coffee Machine doesn't work anymore.

Now that I cannot taste my cheap coffee pods, I am planning to buy a new Nespresso capsule compatible coffee machine (Yes I understand buying capsules are more expensive in longer run than investing on a proper Coffee Machine…)

I have started looking at new machine and now confused with all the new models… apparently some new Nespresso branded coffee machines don't work with the 3rd party pods?

So I will really appreciate if you anybody could suggest some Coffee Machines (which will work with 3rd party Nespresso Capsules as well).
Budget wise the cheaper the better and milk frother is not essential.

Thanks in advance.

The Nespresso machines that don't work with 3rd party pods is their Vertuo line of machines as it uses some sort of microchip or barcode unique to the Vertuo pod line. So 3rd party pods won't work.

If you want the cheapest machine to use with 3rd party pods then the Essenza mini is your best bet that uses their original pods. All the other fancier machines are essentially the same but use more premium materials.

  • Used aldi pod machines are often free/$10/$20 on scumtree.

Get a couple of the podstar style reusable pods and grind your own. Cheaper = ozbargain win. Nicer coffee beans = coffee taste win. More sustainable (for coffee) = global win. Takes seconds to make up a couple of pods each morning.
