On July 16, 1969, at 9:32 a.m., the gigantic Saturn V was launched from Cape Canaveral, the most significant voyage in human history. The giant Saturn V consisted of three main stages, was 110 meters high and weighed 3,000 tons. It could carry a payload of 50 tons and reached a speed of 11.2 km/second. The 394,000 km journey to the moon took 72 hours. After reaching low Earth orbit, the upper assembly with the Apollo capsule received thrust from the third stage of the launch vehicle to reach flight speed to the Moon. Later, the Apollo assembly detached from the rocket, rotated, and pulled the lunar module out of its protective envelope. Thus coupled together, this unit arrived at the Moon and veered into lunar orbit. After several lunar orbits, the lunar module separated from the command module with astronauts N. Armstrong and E. Aldrin on board separated from the command module in which only astronaut M. Collins remained.

    Is this Lego

    • Nope it's a "Plastic Model Kit Gift Set"

  • +3

I have the Lego saturn 5 and am so impressed with it. Is this an exact clone? Wouldn't mind getting one for a family member all I care about is accuracy of the model.

You have to glue and paint this one, not just click together like Lego

  • +9

Rather pay $170 and get the Lego version

    https://www.lego.com/en-au/product/lego-nasa-apollo-saturn-v…

    • The LEGO version is amazing. This doesn't look bad though… but seems a lot more 'DIY' with the glue etc.

  • Built this as a kid, virtually identical kit with little lunar module, same paint pots, decals, etc

    • Ditto, I probably had the same one. My kit was one where the rocket used the crawler as a display base.

      • Happy days……loving the username too

  • New to Revell here - Is it pre-painted or just grey plastic or something similar?

Edit : just noticed it comes with paints so I assume that answers my question? Or is it just certain parts that need painting such as the details?

I just watched some Youtube builds and it needs to be glued and painted. Also the model doesnt seem as detailed as the Lego version, if you can forgive the brick lines.

I don't understand these comments. It's a model kit, gluing and painting is the point of it - it's half the fun! I'm not sure why you think a Lego kit would have more detail either :|

  • I'm really tempted on this. Buy now and pull it out during the quieter Jan/Feb as a boredom buster.

Worried it'll look crap though. I'm not hopeless with models but I heard some YT'ers talking about spray paint? One guy reckons he spent more on materials to build/paint the model then the model itself.

Is this going to look crap if I just carefully paint with a brush (i.e. just use what's in the box)?

    • Yes it will look crap if you paint brush this - but it is your work so it is still an accomplishment which is what this type of thing is all about.
If I was going to buy this I would just get a black and a white rattle can (about $12 each from a hobby shop) - spray it all white then mask it up and spray black.
Hand paint the rest - It will look pretty good.

      • Thanks. Been watching YT videos, seems hand painted jobs come out pretty good with practice and technique.

        Will give it a go.

  • Are these going to be in store? And when exactly is Black Wednesday ? Edit: 25th of November and online only for this one
