Warning on Banggood - Warranty Is Not Honored. Any assistance appreciated

To anyone thinking about buying from Banggood, think again.

Bought a gaming monitor that developed a panel problem (about 65mm wide vertical line that is sometimes darker or lighter than the rest of the panel) well within the warranty. They acknowledged the problem but initially offered me $50 as compensation for something I paid more than $500 for when it was on sale. When I said no I want it fixed, they said I can have it fixed locally and they will reimburse IF price is reasonable but I will LOSE warranty. I said no as I do not want to lose warranty. They said they can still give warranty at their discretion. I contacted repairers in my area and was told it is a panel issue and need to be replaced but they don't have panels available (34 samsung VA ultrawide). I told Banggood this and they are now offering $200 for me to have it repaired locally. I said no as I can't find a place for repair. I said if they can't fix it they just have to refund me. They said they cannot refund fully as I have already used it. I said then have it fixed.

Sorry for the long post but it is very frustrating and I don't want anyone else in this community experiencing the same thing. If anybody has experience dealing with them successfully, I'm all ears.

  • Would a credit card charge back work in this case?

  • Unfortunately I used paypal. It is over 180 days so beyond PayPal protection. Thanks for the reply.

This is the risk of buying from overseas retailers.

    • High value purchases or those likely to require a warranty claim, are best made onshore.
    • Low value or items that don’t require warranty, from overseas.

You can try and fight it, but I would just take the best offer you can get out of them and chalk it up to a lesson learned.

Clear whilst not the Rep, might be able to provide some advice on how to deal with Banggood

  • I agree. Lesson learnt. I have actually just messaged Clear when I got your message! Thanks for taking time to reply 🙂

  • Take it to the manufacturer.

    • I have already emailed. Waiting for reply. Thanks.

  • In my experience, for expensive goods, overseas sellers usually ask you to ship it back to them to receive warranty service. Did they offer this option to you?

    • No they haven't yet. I get the feeling they are avoiding having it shipped back.

  • Buy online Never expect Warranty.
    Banggood has bad reputation.( avoid)

According to this, monitors are not named. So they could declare that under "180 day repair period" as an Electronic Accessories. Or they could declare it under "1 year repair period" when you realise they have listed Projectors there (which would be in the same family as a display or monitor).

Since this isn't normal, and it is not wear and tear, this should be grounds to repair. It is also not a fault due to misuse or damage by the user. However, you are liable for the cost of shipping (doesn't specify if both ways there and back). They don't specify having to pay customs fees, so that should be on them, unless the people at the post/import actually do their job properly and not halt/charge an item coming for reasons excluding sale.

The warranty states that it is void, if you:
Open it, modify its firmware, swap any parts, continue using the device when it has a fault/damaging it further.

Your best bet is to speak live-chat with one of their staff.
Repeat the situation, and send them the link to their own Terms and Conditions.
Explain that you are not allowed to fix it yourself or have someone else fix it for you, under the terms that Banggood made for you. So because of that reason, the warranty needs to be honoured. You are simply trying to fulfil your end of obligations as the buyer in this transaction/contract.

Explain that the best solution for banggood is for a full refund. This is because banggood are not able to receive the item in a timely manner, make their inspections, repair the item (or find the same for replacement), and then ship the item to you.

Remember, it is 3-6 business days for their processing time. And they stated if a product cannot be repaired, Banggood will provide an alternate solution. It would be quite the effort for them to analyse the fault, find parts, fix it properly, test it, organise shipping, and then have you waiting to receive it. You should also mention that due to the holiday period, their company may have difficulty processing this, and meeting their obligations. And for those facts, a full refund is the best option for banggood.

They have already confirmed that it is under warranty but their warranty offers have so far been ridiculously against me and against their own terms.

I will try to speak to someone in person. Thanks so much for all the above information. I'll keep this thread updated.

  • not australian seller, not bound by australian law … even if it were, they could be jerks and say that you bumped the monitor, causing the problem

  • Buys Chinese junk from Chinese junk merchant in china, then surprised has trouble with warranty. Sounds legit

    • Says the one who posted something from Banggood. Sounds legit. Buying anything from anyone always carries risk. Some more than others. I've experienced problems with warranty even with big brands from Australian vendors. I love this site as it has a helpful community, and I try to help and ask assistance as appropriate. Thanks for taking the time to jump in but you are not being helpful.

      • I’m not saying don’t buy stuff from overseas but if you do then you have to realise this confers a degree of risk

As others have said, overseas sellers aren’t bound by ACL. It’s one of the risks you take when you buy from overseas

  • To conclude this post, the following happened:
    - xiaomi didn't honor warranty. But they said they honor ebay, alibaba and not Banggood
    - Banggood offered $250 max refund
    - Banggood then offered full refund but I pay for shipping. But after checking out shipping costs + eta of when they receive it before they refund + anxiety for the duration, i accepted their $250 offer instead and I keep the monitor

They refunded the $250 quite quickly and not sure if it was the same person I was dealing with but the latter messages were better than the initial ones which I felt were just a way to get rid of a complaint. They were more customer friendly.

So I am still very irritated everytime I see the display issue, which is at least 8 hours a day. I wish I had known xiaomi didn't honor products from banggood. Will I buy again from Banggood? Maybe.

  • yeah as much as i dont mind buying cheap shit from banggood i wouildnt ever contemplate anything remotely expensive
