Super Mario Party vs Mario Party Superstars SWITCH

Anyone on here have both and care to provide feedback on whats better?

I don't have either but wondering what would be better, especially for kids.

I never had Nintendos in the past so not really sure on what they are all about with the nostalgia back to the old platforms…

I prefer Superstars, its more like the original, it has better maps and the mini games are better.

But it depends, Super Mario Party allows you to work in pairs v the CPU which is great fun. instead of being stuck to the map layout you can move anywhere on the board. You and your party's dice combine and you each more the total of the dice. Its also got the original style if you want it

I got both and we switch (lol) between the two games depending on how we feel.

Just wish they did DLC for either of them.

I dont have kids :) But played Super Mario Party with my mates kids and they loved it. I reckon either would be suitable.

Mario Party Superstars is using all the maps/games from the N64 version, whereas Super Mario Party is a new game.

It also means that Superstars uses standard controls, whereas Super Mario Party makes use of the joycons as motion controllers (you actually have to use them, at least they did when I sold my switch a couple of years ago, game is useless on a Switch Lite or with pro controllers).

For kids, I'd probably go Super Mario Party then maybe get Superstars if they really enjoy it, Superstars is a retro throwback. If they have Switch Lites or want to play online more, Superstars would be a better option (online options are a bit light with Super Mario Party)

Have both, superstars has a section before you start to select mini games, family friendly ones and then different/harder ones. So that's a +.

Theyre both great games. Depending on the kids age/skill that may not be necessary.

  • Thanks guys, I should have mentioned probably not concerned about online play.

Also they are young kids who enjoy Mario Kart and Mario and Sonic at the Olympics. Im thinking games like Overcooked and Moving Out are a bit too much for them at the moment.

Is anything from Super Mario Party (like same mini games) included in the Superstars? At first it sounds like its an extension of all the older games and may include some fav parts of it but now sounds like its totally standalone.

  • They're pretty much standalone games, also important to note that SMP uses the joycons only vs MPS can use any controller. I've always enjoyed the original n64 games for years, and still play them from time to time with friends, so MPS is definitely my go-to now. I guess it depends on how much you and the kids enjoy the joycons, if you're using them quite frequently for motion/action based games then you might enjoy SMP more.
Only one way to find out - get one or both and try them out, if you don't like one then just sell it.
