  • wow nice. I got the HARMONY 600 for $30 from logitechshop ages ago and its great.

  • Just bought this, awesome deal! Purchased from logitechshop before, all good

  • Good price, better than Aldi's 39.99$

    • thats why its on a super sale. curious to know the price of this 2 days ago from logitechshop

  • Bought one previously and can highly recommend the Harmony 650. Replaces remotes for my Panasonic plasma, Onkyo 609, Apple TV, Dxtreme 380 and Foxtel.

  • Would this work with a Rank arena lcd tv about 1.5yrs old as my 6 & 4 yr old have damaged the remote for this I am also looking to use it for an xbox 360 i.e. for media centre aspect…..

    • The xbox is supported and the Rank Arena probably is - my Panasonic is over 4 years old and it was listed. Maybe you can check with Logitech first. You will need the TVs model number.

    • I had an odd unsupported TV, emailed them & they tracked down the codes from another user & provided them.

    • Yeah the Harmony range can work with over 5,000 brands & over 250,000 devices - our global databases keep growing as new devices are added to it. In the off chance your model isn't included you can 'train' the Harmony off your original remote. You can also check here http://bit.ly/LogitechHarmonyDeviceCompatibility

  • do you need separate email accounts for each harmony remote if they are used in different areas?

  • bargaincrypt - any chance of a special on the G500 gaming mouse?

    • +2

We are working on some gaming stuff. Hopefully soon

  • Would be good if paypal let me checkout :|

Ordered from ebay for $5 more… I'll keep this one and give my 600 to my grandparents. Great remotes.

    • Are you using opera to checkout? I've been having some problems with paypal and opera lately.

  • Hi Bargaincrypt

I'm looking at replacing my Harmony. I will be on to remote #4.

The first one I had (Harmony 659) worked great for about 2 1/2 years. And then the metallic conductive coating (carbon) on the underside of the rubber buttons basically gave out, and certain frequently used buttons would no longer function. I purchased some wire-glue paint - but it didn't work too well and never properly bonded to the buttons. Hence I've got the remote just sitting gathering dust.

The second one I purchased (from you guys) is a Harmony 515. This worked well for about 1 year, before also getting issues with frequently used buttons. Unlike the 659, the buttons that gave out on this one were a different style (a proper push button switch style - versus a circuit made by a carbon coated rubber button). It also has the rubber conductive coating buttons - but these seemed to last ok. Unfortunately what killed this remote was an accidental step on the LCD screen by my 2 year old son - which made the remote practically unusable.

The third remote I purchased (thinking I got myself a bargain) was a Harmony 300 remote from Big W (or Kmart or whatever) for $10. I had high hopes for this remote. It turned out to be next to useless for home theatre setups. This remote does NOT support activities. Meaning, you cannot press a "Watch Video" button, and expect the remote to turn on your TV, turn on your AMP, switch inputs etc. It basically is just a remote that can replace 4 different remotes - but has no context of what any of the other remotes performs. Its essentially useless for home theatre.

Now this brings me to purchase of Logitech remote #4. I'm after something that is going to last longer than a 2 years without the frequently used buttons failing. I'm ok spending a few $$ extra, so long as the thing will last. Does logitech do such a remote, or am I better off just dropping $30 and getting something that will probably need replacement in a few years?

Note - I use the logitech remote to replace a TIVO. Hence buttons like rewind/fastforward/tivo-button get hammered.

    cheers

    • A tip: I've had success with remotes with worn out contacts by glueing a small piece of aluminum foil to the key membrane. You've only got a few minutes of your time to lose by trying.

    • Another tip, a little more involved than Bruce's.

      1. Go and buy a cheap calculator, or anything with calculator-style keys (kitchen timer etc).
      2. Disassemble it until you get to the rubber/plastic keypad.
      3. Use a razor blade to cut off one of the conductive rubber bits - a slice 1mm thick is good (you have plenty of keys to practise on if you don't get it right first time)
      4. Do the same to the defective key on your broken remote.
      5. Try using super-glue to attach the new conductive rubber bit to your broken keypad. If that doesn't stick, try again with a TINY dob of silicon rubber.
      6. After the glue/silicon has cured, reassemble the remote. Keep the remains of the cheap calculator for your next repair.

Now, if only I could buy little tubes of silicon rubber the way I can buy lots of little tubes of super-glue for $2…

    • Edit: Oops, double post

Used to regularly have people ask me to repair their worn out remotes. That was OK when I had a pot of conductive paint, but it is expensive to replace. When that ran out, tried a few things, aluminium foil glued in place worked well. But with the falling price of universal remotes, I always recommended them. Now that Harmonies are cheap, I wouldn't even bother repairing a remote.

Also used to install paper under certain buttons, to stop those being used. Helpful to disable features for some older people unused to so many options, or sight impaired.

    • Hi mshannon - sorry to hear about those experiences. Most of our products have 1/2 or 3 Year Limited Warranties on them so always buzz our team on 1800 025 544 who can help you out if things break down or fail.

The Harmony 300 is our entry level remote & you are right, it isn't suitable for complex set ups - we'd recommend the Harmony One or 1100i

More info is available on the range here http://www.logitech.com/en-au/remotes?overview

  • Wonder when the harmony 800 will become available http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1398964

haven't heard anything yet. But im sure to look into it now :)

I would personally recommend a harmony one. I have had one for over 3 years. I have had no issues. For features it covers everything except for ps3 as you need the adaptor for it. The Harmony 650 is similar to the 600 except for the color screen. The biggest question is Are you after features? If you are the harmony one you cannot go wrong. As it seems that you have had a good Go at all the low end models.

  • Just ordered the mouse, $18 is a steal! Thanks for the bargain!

  • +1

Bargain Crypt any chance of dropping the price on the harmony 700 a little bit ???
As i need remote for six devices.

    • 1+, and it's rechargeable. If the price is lowered a bit, I''ll certainly be getting one.

  • Perfect timing! Mine just got squashed and damaged the screen.

  • Hmm, mouse seems to be $18 everywhere. Free shipping is a plus.

See if my mom is interested for her lappy.

  • BC, any chance of the G35 headset coming up soon? My Razer one is on the way out, would be prepared to jump ship to Logitech :)

      shortly, just awaiting stock

  • waiting for logitech k800 keyboard on sale.
it used to be $60 from ebay and staples.com

  • still no harmony link in Australia? if they are coming soon hopefully we see a special on them. hate to have to pick one up from amazon

    • Sorry no word on this coming to Australia. Check with the seller re Warranty provisions, Australian Compliance & power requirements. You'll also need to check whether the App is available for this region and if all functions are supported.

  • Do these work OK using XBMC on a Windows7 media centre?

    • Yes as long as your system as IR to receive the commands we've heard lots of people using a Harmony for this purpose.

  • So what do I need for it function as a PS3 remote?

  • Has anyone received order confirmation email from logitechshop? I haven't. I got one from PayPal though.

  • Any chance of doing the g400 for $19 again ?

    ^_^ <<<<<< puppy dog eyes

    • :(

  • I keep getting invalid address when I get to Paypal from the logitechshop checkout page

Another reason why you need to accept better payment methods. /sigh

Edit: PayPal didn't like me entering in XX/XXX as unit/street number. Fixed that, and bought the remote - but still..EFT please

    • It needs to be a verified address. I've placed 12 orders and had every order run smoothly. Doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the system…

      • Wait what does that mean? I just made a paypal account and in my transaction history I've paid them for the remote. But I didn't verify anything

Edit: Verified my email address if that's what you meant

  • I am interested in a deal for the K400 keyboard. My iPhone with the Logitech remote app will do in the meantime.

  • darn too slow..already out of stock for the 650 :(

  • stock refilled. More added

  • I got the Logitech 300 remote for $10. Someone tell me what the difference is ?

    • The 650 has
      - a Colour Screen
      - controls up to 5 devices
      - has the One-Touch Activity-Based Control
      - http://www.logitech.com/en-au/remotes?overview

    • +1

Although the 300 replaces potentially 4 remotes, the remotes are treated as separate entities without any type of context/integration. Thus, if you have say an amplifier, television, and media player - to get the media player to play a video you would need to :

      1) Press the TV button, then press the power button, then press the input button etc to choose the HDMI channel.
      2) Press the AUX button, then press the power button to turn the amp on, maybe press some other button to toggle the audio inputs
      3) Press the DVD button, then navigate though your media etc.

(The buttons have fixed names - and as shown above the devices that they correspond to may not make any sense).

The next step up in the logitech remotes (such as the 650 above) support the concept of activities.
Effectively, an activity is something like
"Watch a movie", or "Listen to radio", etc

Pressing the "Watch a movie" button, would effectively perform all the steps necessary to get a movie to play with a single button press (rather than N number of button presses above required with the 300).

Basically.. the 300 is great for a remote replacement and/or for separate non integrated devices. It's worth spending a few more dollars (in this case $30) to get something that supports activities for home theatre setups.

If I had known the 300 did not support activities, I would not have purchased it. The packaging is pretty misleading. I thought I was getting myself an entry level no-fuss remote to replace my LCD screened 525/659 etc. Effectively what I got was four remote controls sticky taped together - but in nicer packaging.

      • Hi mshannon give our Harmony Universal Remote Priority Support Line 1800 726 063 a buzz as there is the Watch TV button which can be set to a few things & the other buttons can be customised. You are right though the mid to high end models in our range have a lot more features including the 'One Touch Activities'

  • Sorry for the noob question about these sorts of remote control units. I have looked on the logitech website, and cannot see a clear answer. Can these things be programed with macro like functions? eg. Turn on TV, wait 5 seconds, switch to input x, wait 2 seconds, simulate button x being pressed, wait 1 second, simulate button y being pressed, wait 1 second, play. Or will it only do certain pre-defined functions as determined by the manufacturer? Many thanks.

    • +1

As I understand you can unless Logitech changed the features. My old 525 allowed these 'activities' to be setup and you can add wait time between each command.

      • thanks yhng :)

    • Yes you can set it up for those sorts of things. Once you set up the Devices you have, you can then set up 'Macros' including delays in signals etc.

  • Yes you can. Harmony remotes can be a pain in the arse to set it up and tweak but once it's done you will have years of viewing pleasure.

  • ordered and received it 2 days..
can't wait to go home and try..

  • New models on the way according to this http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/26/logitechs-q3-2012-report-… but for 30 bucks you cant go wrong. Have been considering the Harmony one but it appears some had battery issues after 18 months http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1547825

    • First we've heard, although the Harmony One is the oldest, the 650 was out last year… doubt a new model will be sub $40 though :-)
