Sold Item on eBay. Printed Auspost Label and Posted but No Update for 11+ Days

I've started selling some of my stuff on eBay again to clear my house and get some extra income. Sold a relatively small item (a premium matchbox-style car); paid and printed an Auspost standard postage label from eBay and posted the parcel at my local post box. Tracking has not updated since I generated the label on Oct Nov 6th. Item is from VIC to a rural address in NSW. What's funny is that all my other 8+ items posted via Auspost and Sendle to various states have arrived within 7 days, some 2 (VIC to QLD)!

Customer is agro at me and accused me of not posting the item. What's unusual, and possibly a coincidence is that this item is the only one I've posted at my local post box. Every other item has been lodged at my local post office so there's immediate tracking and receipt. All I can think of is either the item has been stolen (I didn't check the box door); lost or is one of the rare ones that didn't get scanned and is delayed.

Anyone else experience a one off delayed postage and what are my options?

This is not uncommon, even before the pandemic, if you post items at red street box, they will not be scanned into the sytem when they are picked up and though they "should" be scanned when they reach the first sorting centre, often they don't get scanned until the item arrives in the local area of the receiver.
If you want to guarantee that the thing get at least one scan in the system, you have to take it into an aus post store, get them to scan it in (even if you already paid via ebay) they will just scan it into the system and hand you a lodgement receipt, proof that it was sent.
I have had items i sent not get scanned for a well over a week, especially ones going to the other side of the country but they have all eventually arrived.
I assume you meant November 6th (a saturday) and if so today is only the 8th business day since it would have been picked up by aus post on monday.
Buyer is just going to need to be patient, i would be pretty suprised if it didn't show up by monday.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Yes, good catch, I meant Nov 6th!

Future tipz: dont use Auspost. If you realllly need to use it because of your location, always submit in a post office - not in a post box. They will generate a first scan and avoid this. I run a small business, we charge a premium to use Auspost because we dont want anyone to use auspost… because the headache to package ratio is much higher than alternatives.

I'd just tell the receiver that you put it in a post box, hence the no scan issue - tell them that Auspost has been terrible in VIC lately and tell them to wait another 2 weeks. If it doesnt show up then you can discuss next steps. That way you arent running away from the problem, but giving Auspost a chance to actually do their f-ing job.

There should be an update within the next fortnight… if there isnt, then i'd offer a refund - then always submit in a post office.

I think waiting an entire fortnight past the already week and a half wait so far would be highly unlikely to be required.

      • O i misread it.. its already been 6 weeks… yeah you are going to have to issue a refund.. Auspost are the worst, they will probably just return it to you eventually. Although I did have a melbourne to melbourne parcel take just over 2 months recently. L O V E A U S P O S T

        • Nah, my bad, I meant November 6th, not Oct. Tomorrow (Friday, will be 10 business days).

    • Thanks for the tip! It’s funny I’ve always been paranoid and usually lodge items at Auspost so I get the receipt instead of post boxes and had been doing so before Auspost labels were integrated in to eBay. This was the first time in over 5 years I’ve done this and I thought “what’s the risk?” Plus I have a post box just 15m away. Love and learn!

Another day… another slow parcel question….

    AusPost… Nuff said

    • But I'm sure they've hit their KPIs and justified their bonus payments for the year

I can't believe things are late or overdue with Auspost given their chosen timepiece is Cartier. lol

Find a budget carrier that wear Omega or Rolex and get on with life.

  • At least it was low value, was a post a while back of someone who posted a $2k camera lens in the street box which never scanned!

  • Dont refund too early,, I did and the tracking and delivery all showed up the next day. Call them and ask

  • Unfortunately without a lodgement scan on the tracking, eBay will take the buyers side if they lodge a dispute with eBay. Always lodge over the counter.

  • Had exact same thing happened to me, normally I drop off at the post office so it scans in. this time since it was only going about 30 km I would just drop in red box and it would get scanned in within a couple days. After about 2-3 weeks and no scanable event, I shipped another to buyer and requested refund for label. Then about another 2 weeks later and magically it scanned in at delivery center and eventually delivered.

  • They should be scanned at the post office in front of you when you drop it off, they will print a receipt off for it.

Yeah happened to me as well, no updates in 3 weeks then delivered. This was from NSW to Vic

Just ask customer to be patient, I know he wants his hot wheels now but everyone needs to wait and we cant have everything now and we cant just eat sugar.

  • I had a problem with printing the label. Instead of a barcode I got a solid coloured block. Never found out why. Local PO could not help had to pay a second time and seek a refund that took about a week.

That is my first and last experience with printing a postage label with Australia Post.

Did you photograph the package. Is the barcode readable?

I had this happen the other week albeit with a prepaid satchel. Posted in a red street box in the morning on Monday. No scans until the 'out for delivery' one the following Monday.

Although many people here are saying that this is quite common, I very very rarely encounter this (I send several items a week via prepaid satchels for my day job).

I would suggest either lodging over the counter if you can, or even via the parcel locker (you can send items through them, takes an extra day but at least it will have an acceptance scan).

Thanks for that! The day after I posted this I finally got an update and it was being scanned at the sorting centre AND going to transit from VIC to NSW in 15mins, then 2 days of nothing before delivery attempt (ARGH!).
