Belong Mobile - Can't Make or Receive Calls ( iPhone )

So I’ve been with belong fora few months now along with my kids and parents who I’ve all ported them over too belong to.

The issue is have with them is, when ever someone tries to call me; 7 times out of 10, the call goes directly to the telstra text from voice message thing they have. I don’t even get a missed call from them.

It’s not a reception issue as I have full bars and usually make an outgoing call to that person instantly.

I’ve contacted belong support and they’re “looking into it” after they told me to do the usual troubleshooting things.

Now I’ve got another issue, I can’t even make outgoing calls. It just lingers till it says “call failed”

Anyone else got this with belong ?

I’ve tried all my kids phones they get the same issue.

What did they say when you contacted them?

    • Reset network settings.
      Turn phone off and on

        What phone do you have?
I still don't know why but this sometimes fixes it, I've had luck going into a Telstra store saying my reception keeps cutting out could I get a new sim?

Does this occur at only one location or if you take the phone around a city does it occur everywhere?

I just realised this is belong you might need to go into a supermarket and buy a $2 starter pack and ask to transfer to that SIM.

        • It happens everywhere.

Belong just tried to ring me now and it went straight to the voice to message service for who ever tried to ring me.

          I’ve got an iPhone XR.

My kids phones are iPhone SE and an iPhone 7

@Danstar: This is for Telstra but should work:

            dial:

#150# - Will display the mobile number of that handset

**61*101**30# - will extend the ring time to 30 seconds

            Do any of these work?

            • @deme: Error performing request when I tried that.

Belong also said they’ll extend the ring time to 30 seconds. That would be good if my phone would even ring when someone tried to call me

              • @Danstar:

Error performing request when I tried that.

If phones in general were not so shit at displaying key data like why it failed it would be easy.

                Try (iPhones only): *3001#12345#* source

under sim info do you have a plmn list and a plmn network name and msisdn or are they blank, don't post the values.

If any of them are blank get a new sim.

                • @deme: Plmn says LTE(0) and the ribbon button next to it isn’t highlighted.

That was under the menu “cell info”

Can’t find the other things you said

                  • @Danstar: You should have had a section (at the top) on the very first screen that says "SIM Info".

          • +2

@Danstar: Honestly for the $2 to get a new sim quickly is probably your best bet.
If you asked they will likely see when out for free but then you will have to wait.

I don't know if this will fix it but it has fixed it for me in the past with a similar thing

            • @deme: Does belong have a $2 sim for sale ?

              • @Danstar: I've seen Belong at Coles and Woolies before, I forget the price.

If not ask Belong to send you a free one.

                • @deme: I’ve think I’ve worked it out. Seems to be a 4g/3G issue

Since calls use 3G, I think either the 3G in my house is bad or for some reason the 3G isn’t clicking over like it does when I’m in another suburb

                  • @Danstar: Could you try:

Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Options

disable 4G/LTE, if you have an option for "Voice & Data (VoLTE) or Data Only" try both options.

I tried ringing myself multiple times. Finally got through once using my sons phone to ring my phone.

Worked once! Tried again. No luck. Tried ringing some other numbers I’ve been needing to call today. No luck!

  • Wonder if VoLTE is affecting your phones?

    • No idea. It’s never been as bad as it has been the last couple of weeks

      Belong doesn't have it.

Belong just emailed me saying their is an outage In My area…

I call a little bit of BS as this was happening all last week when I was in hospital not in the same area I live…

I’ll wait and see what happens

  • Do you have another phone to try your SIM card in? This will tell you for certain what is causing the issue (network/SIM or phone).

    • There are 3 Belong mobiles in my home and they're all doing the same thing. My partner is using a Samsung with Boost mobile, she doesn't have any issues. I will maybe try my sim card in her phone when she's home and vice versa, see if that shows anything

      • I see, okay, well it's definitely not your SIM card or phone then.
A clear issue with Belong, which is odd given they are both on the Telstra network (Boost and Belong), so perhaps an internal software glitch with Belong causing it.
        All I can think of.
It's near impossible to speak with anyone locally with Belong, isn't it?

        • They tried calling me, but my phone didn't ring. It goes straight to that voice to text service. So it shows that SMS is working fine at least….

  • If you try all the things above for the phone then ask Belong to send out a replacement SIM card. This will not do anything at your end, but their system will change and may fix the issue if it's not a phone issue, but a config issue at Belong.

Having similar issues in Brisbane CBD. Four co-workers (all Telstra, or Aldi Telstra) unable to make or receive calls in the office yet no issues with data/text etc. Other colleagues using Optus not having the issue. Office is not a black-spot as we've all been able to make/receive calls until the last week or so. Telstra "investigating".

    • It's very frustrating…especially if it's urgent.

I was able to make 1 10 minutes ago, tried calling my sons phone right aftrer, it actually went through on my end, but not on his. I got that voice to text straight away.

  • There's a known issue w/ iOS 15 and dropping calls.. Although apparently it only impacts iPhone 12 and iPhone 13.

Have you tried updating to iOS 15.1.1 (reportedly fixes drop call issues).

    • 2 of my kids phones are still on iOS 14

      Mine is on 15.1

      and says no updates available

  • belong uses 3g for calls. when u make a call the bars on ur phone will switch to 3g. so maybe poor 3g reception

    • Hmm I usually am on 4g, it does go to 3G sometimes, usually when I go indoors like a shopping centre

      I think you’re right tumsum

I driven to another suburb and I can make and receive calls first try. I notice when I make a call it changes to 3G straight away and same when I receive a call

I’m not sure how belong can fix this. I never had an issue before though at my home address

  • Had the same thing happened to my Aldi mobile. Ended up getting a new sim card and used the existing number. They couldn't figure out the issue

    • Did that fix it ?

      • Yep

    UPDATE!

I put my sim into my partners Samsung and I could call my sister who’s with Optus and it worked straight Away. When I tried calling my kids phones (belong and iPhone) it wouldn’t go through.

So I’m assuming it’s an iPhone issue

    Update 2:
Now that I’ve told belong that the sim worked in another phone; they’ve basically wiped their hands clean of the issue and told me to look up iPhone troubleshooting on apples website. 🙄

I’ve replied saying it can’t be coincidence that belong isn’t working on 3 seperate iPhone devices with 3 different sims. It just be a setting somewhere in belongs side

  • Rang a friend yesterday said the same issues with his Iphone. I'm the only one who could call him. I'm on Android/Aldi prepaid.

HAHA just another apple sucks compilation

  • Stuff Belong! Crap! I tried their internet… they are part of telstra and they're shit!!! Trouble is the people in the service centre are lovely and kind but nobody can help and they all just say things but don't nothing ever happens. Is my telstra experience too. Get boost or aldi perhaps I love my Boost service and just pay an annual fee. No monthly payments and great coverage. .

  • I guess you don’t belong

    Latest update:

I think I may have found a fix.
Min settings > mobile > Mobil data options > voice & data > voLTE - disabled it

Volte was enabled. I’ve never gone into the mobile data options cos it says “roaming off” so I always assumed that was only to turn that on or off. But there is more options within there such as turning off 4g and using 3G only. Since turning off volte on all my devices at home, I’ve been able to call every phone and they’ve been able to call me without issue.

    • By disabling volte you get sh*t internet speeds, it like defaults you to 2G/3G network- (which is perfectly fine for texting and calling but for internet its terrible)

Its not a fix, its a temporary patch happened with me with my boost mobile long ago (on samsung galaxy s8 but i think it was a network problem not a problem with phone).

      • +1

Hmm it says that the VOLTE will only affect voice calls. I’ll do speed tests now

        Update:

        DL speed 92Mbps
        UL speed 23 Mbps

        That’s with volTE off

When I tried turning volte back on, didn’t have any internet. Lol

      • Disabling VoLTE doesn't disable LTE?

    • I think it is because Belong doesn't support VoLTE, and the phone was trying to use VoLTE, so you couldnt make call properly each time.

Maybe. Hope this solves your problem!

      • Seems to have done the trick.
