Student Bank Account Recommendations for Junior High Student

A relative is in junior high and they require a student bank account.

I'm just starting to do a search now on what could be a good option for them.
Obviously being a young full time high school student they don't earn much, maybe $100 a month.
Any Ozbargain favourite or recommendations on a suitable bank?
They'll only be making limited transactions, obviously won't be earning much interest so mainly just a "safe" place to store their money.
It would be cool if there's any perks, incentives, bonus cash etc.

Thanks all.

NAB seems to be the safe place to open an account these days, fee free.

    • Thanks, I'll check it out.

Age? Requiring their own debit card for ATM and/or online transactions?

My kids are on ING Orange Everyday Youth but need to be 15+.

    • Under 15, 13 years old. Debit card is required as their tuckshop doesn't except cash! haha Thanks Scotty

  • All the banks have fee free student accounts (or the vast majority of them), but they have 0% interest. I would go with the one that the child can get to after school as the "free" things that some offer are IMHO not worth it compared to allowing the child to go to the bank after school.

  • We’ve used Spriggy.

Kid gets an eftpos/visa debit card.

Parents can use the app to see what the money is being used for and can top up the account.

Seemed like an ok option for our kid until they start earning their own money.

  • dollarmi…… oops can't use that word no more and promote that account
