Dell S2722QC Monitor - Are These Issues Normal?

Hey everyone,

to preface, I have already been in touch with the Dell team on eBay, and they were great, but limited. They have asked me to contact their tech support on Monday, and if I have no joy they'll refund me. I'd rather seek a replacement if I've got a dodgy monitor, but don't want to waste my time (and possibly miss out on current BF deals) if it's the norm. (Obviously if I asked Dell tech support this directly they'd say these issues aren't the norm.)

3 issues of concern:

1) When the monitor goes into standby mode, there is a noticeable (to me, though admittedly my hearing is pretty sensitive) high pitched noise. This noise isn't present when the screen is on, or the monitor is off (but still plugged in).

2) Randomly, last night (I have only had the monitor for a few days) the screen began flickering. OSD confirmed it was displaying at 60hz, but looked more like 30. It returned to normal after a while, thought a restart and reconnecting the computer didn't initially solve it.

3) The secondary usb3.0 input on the left of the screen works, but cables wiggle around as thought they are loose. Devices never seem to disconnect, just seems like a loose port.

Anyone who has a S2722QC, could you please tell me if your monitor has exhibited any of the same issues as mine?

For anyone who finds this thread looking for an opinion on the monitor; Most of the time the monitor works perfectly. I mean, it's certainly not for watching movies or playing games, as the size of it means the sides are off-axis. But so long as these issues aren't the norm, for general use or (non-multimedia) work, I'd recommend it.

Thanks all

  • We don't have any of the model you have, but here we've got all Dell monitors (but they're getting old these days). I haven't come across one where I noticed a high pitched on one before.

I've come across a couple of monitors (probably about 3 out of 200 or so) that haven't been in top shape. If I remember right, a VGA port went on two monitors and a panel had died, but they were probably 5 or so years old when they were tested before being sold off.

Dell are my preferred monitor these days.

    • +1

Sounds like I've just experienced a dud panel. Will ask them to replace it tomorrow. Thank you.

      • Hi @Morien I have been experencing the same issues as you, did you arrage the replace via ebay? I have talked to the tech support, they did nothing but waste my one hour.

        • The Ebay store told me to contact tech support. I did.
I had to be pretty direct with them on the phone line, that it happened regardless of the input (HDMI, USB-C), with different devices, and that no, I couldn't show flickering with a video or a picture because it was flickering faster than a video's frame rate.

The new one still has the buzzing, but it doesn't flicker.

          • @Morien: Thanks mate, imaged to capturing the flickering on the phone with 60frame video, they said will arrange replacement for me, hope I could get it soon.

  • I got them same high pitch issue on both s2722dc and s2722qc. the usb port on the bottom edge kind of doesn't work after i turn off the monitor. have to disconnect my macbook m1 and connect it again to get that usb port to work.

    • Hmm. So not just me then. Thanks

  • Late to this thread, got the S2722QC as the replacement 4K to my 6yo P2415Q that died last month.

    Two Qs from me:

    1. Did you get your replacement in the end?
    2. Did it fix your problems?

    To answer your Qs:

1 - Noticeable high pitch in standby mode

I believe I have fairly good hearing, but didn't notice anything unusual (which just prompted me — got a flyer or saw an ad to get a free hearing test at Audika 😄 - I am NOT affiliated). One of my kids has very sensitive hearing and hasn't reported anything either.

    2 - Random flickering.

Yes. And quite annoying. And intermittent as you said. And therefore (1) a challenge to replicate and (2) resolve.

Would you happen to have an M1 Mac too?

Lots of discussions over at MacRumors on this and possible solutions, see this and this

    3 - Loose port.

    Not on my unit.

  • I just received my S2722QC today and have noticed the same high pitched noise when switching input sources or when the monitor goes into standby mode. I've used other Dell monitors before, mainly the P-series but have never noticed this same noise so I thought mine was a dud. Seems like it's fairly common with this model.

However, mine has a piece of what seem to be a speck of dust stuck in between the screen layers so I'll have to swap it anyway.

@morien Did you get your replacement screen and did it also have the high pitched noise?

    • Replacement screen still has the noise in standby.

      • I got my replacement screen yesterday and still has the same noise but much quieter. I can live with it now.

  • I wonder what the chance is to get a refund on this? I would rather pay extra to avoid these reocurring issues after replacement.

  • Hi All,

Have the same buzzing and humming problem with my both S2722QC monitors. I am just curious, did some one tried to use Apple's Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) Cable (0.8 m) instead of original USBc cable to eliminate buzzing/humming noise? If yes, did it work?

    Thanks!

  • Just reporting my first 27qc had the flickering and vertical lines when going from white to black images. And the replacement unit I got has the humming noise when usbc is plugged in and monitor is in standby or turned off. When unplugged or if there is signal it works fine. Asking for a 2nd replacement. What has happened to Dell. They used to produce quality hardwares 10 years ago!
