In the last week I have received 3 separate payments of $0.01 USD into my PayPal account from unknown people.
Two of the payments were from a person with the same name, the other payment was a different name.
Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem as I believe this is a scam and I am just trying to figure out what their end game is?
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

I suspect your PayPal account is being used by hackers to confirm the account they gained access to (not yours) can successfully spend money. There is not much you can do about it.
2FA is always a good idea.
That said, I really don't have a problem with randoms sending me money.
2FA affords the OP with immediate protection from loss until Paypal look into it.

@holdenmg: Haha free money isn't a problem. I'm just concerned if they start claiming chargebacks from their end as PayPal charges you $15 when the other person opens a chargeback.
They're typically just confirmation payments for a particular company/service provider
Don't think they are from a company. They aren't company names. They are payments from people with presumably fake names?
I user PayPal quite frequently and no, nothing of this sort has happened to me..
Having said that, I did receive an uninitiated password reset request email from PayPal a couple of months ago.

Btw you can actually call them and get in touch with their cyber security team to find out if there might be something more sinister behind those random deposits.
Thanks, I've since enabled 2-factor authentication. But I think you're right, I'll probably give them a call just to be on the safe side. Thought I'd see if anyone else had any experience with it first before resorting to calling PayPal as it's never a fun experience haha.
I've had confirmation payments of a couple of cents in the past, all legit, have you received any followup emails since the payment?
If you have it could be a Pyramid scheme scam.
Haven't received any messages since and there's no message details in the payment either. Very strange indeed!
It could be fraudsters testing if the account exists.
Hmm I thought this too. So I've blocked the accounts from being able to send me anymore money, but I don't want to refund the payments as then they'll know my account is active. Think I'll give PayPal a call.
It's the reverse credit card scam. They try small payments to you before sending you thousands.
